The "Qiang People's Embroidery Innovation Design Seminar Completion Report Exhibition" of Chinese non-genetic inheritors was successfully held in Taoping Qiang Village, Li County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan.

At 10 am on September 28, 2020, hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, organized by the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University, the Lixian County Party Committee and County Government of Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province, co-organized by , the “2019 China Non-genetic Population Research and Training Program: 2019 1st Qiang People's Embroidery Innovation Design Seminar Completion Report Exhibition in Nanjing Normal University” was held in Taoping Qiang Village, Li County, Aba Prefecture, Sichuan Province. In this event were presented Ms. Xiong Ying, Deputy Director of the Standing Committee of Lixian People's Congress, Ms. Shen Huijuan, Deputy Director of the Bureau of Culture, Sports adn Tourism of Lixian Country, Mr. Zhu Yi, Party Secretary of the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University, Mr. Xue Mo, Deputy Dean of the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University, Mr. Zhao Nan, Director of the Office of the Schhol of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University, Professor Zhang Ben, the project host of this period and a doctoral tutor of the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University as well as 27 students and otehr leaders of related departments. The opening ceremony was hosted by Professor Zhang Ben.

Professor Zhang Ben first introduced the leaders and guests who participated in the opening ceremony of the closing ceremony and the overall situation of the research and training activities to the guests and students.

Ms. Xiong Ying, deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Lixian People’s Congress, on behalf of the Lixian County Party Committee and County Government and the Standing Committee of the County People’s Congress, expressed her heartfelt gratitude for the dedication of the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University, saying that intangible cultural heritage was the gene of national culture. She said that not only it carried the wisdom gene of ethnic groups's cilvilazation and history, but also it was engraved with vivid real footprints of daily life, condensing human wisdom and yearning for a better life, which was of great significance to the construction of contemporary culture. It was not only necessary to vigorously promote and inherit, but also to continuously activate innovation, to enhance the stamina of inheritance and to expand the inheritance team.

In his speech, Mr. Zhu Yi, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University, reviewed the life of the students in this training class at Nanjing Normal University, and congratulated the students on their achievements in keeping upright and innovating Qiang people's embroidery. Secretary Zhu Yi said that the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University would continue to provide an academic platform and help within its capacity for the inheritance and innovation of Qiang culture. At the same time, he also hoped that the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University and Li County would carry out more in-depth cooperation in terms of the protection, inheritance and research of intangible cultural heritage. 

The trainee representative Long Xiaoqiong first thanked the Lixian County Party Committee and County Government and the School of Fine Arts of Nanjing Normal University for the high-quality platform and sincere dedication built for this research and training institute. She said that through this study, she broadened her horizons, found deficiencies, and established confidence. And she confirmed that she found a precise position for the future creation and innovation in terms of Qiang peple's embroidery.

More than 100 pieces of Qiang people's embroidery works by 27 trainees were exhibited in the "Qiang People's Embroidery Innovation Design Seminar Completion Exhibition". Exhibits were divided into two categories: embroidery and real objects. It could be seen from the creation of the works in this closing exhibition that after the preliminary research and training and the later digestion, the students have undergone significant changes and improvements in creative techniques, theme selection and style performance. The research and training effects have been significant.

After the opening ceremony of the closing ceremony, all the trainees performed Qiang people's song and dance for guests in the Sarang Square of Qiang Village. The atmosphere was warm and welcomed by guests and tourists. The closing report exhibition was also completed in a happy and harmonious atmosphere. 

The closing report exhibition showed the following characteristics:
First, the folk, popular and regional characteristics of Qiang embroidery have been effectively highlighted, and it has truly achieved the "keeping integrity" required by non-genetic inheritance. The “Taishan Stone is Dare to Take Resposibility” embroidered by Wang Luqiong, a trainee of the training class and provincial non-genetic inheritor, with strong cultural characteristics of the Qiang nationality, attracted attention in the exhibition and was sold on the spot.

Second, the students' creative concepts have changed significantly, which have differed from the lack of aesthetic image and creativity in previous creations that only stayed in daily life, and more used materials with characteristics of the times in the creation, keeping up with the time progress, in well reflecting the theme of the new era. The innovation has been fruitful, and the effect of research and training has been verified.

Third, the students' creative ideas and vision have been significantly improved and expanded. Through this training, most of the students have been exposed to a large number of similar arts that they had  never seen before, for instance, exquisite craftsmanship such as Suzhou embroidery, Yunjin, and Kesi. Trainees have broadened their horizons and gained new experiences. Especially, some trainees have tried to learn from and use Suzhow embroidery techniques, such as flat stitch and double-sided embroidery, in their works. Although immature, they have taken a solid step forward in the innovation of Qiang peolpe's embroidery.

The training class lasted for one year, always adhering to the coexistence of "keeping integrity" and "innovation" concept. It achieved remarkable research and training results, and successfully completed the tasks assigned by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security. Although this seminar has ended, the research and training project team will carefully summarize and find shortcomings to accumulate more effective and practical experience for subsequent intangible heritage protection, inheritance and research.
