Invited by the college of chemistry and materials science of Nanjing Normal University, Professor Xu Haichao from Xiamen University has visited the NJNU on November 10, 2019, and delivered the lecture titled with “Electrochemically Enabled Radical Reactions” at the lecture hall 226 in Huaxing Building. The wonderful lecture was hosted by Professor Sun Peipei, with the presence of more than 60 teachers and students.
Professor Xu Haichao graduated from the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering of Xiamen University (CN) with a bachelor's degree in 2006. He then joined the group of Professor Kevin D. Moeller at University of Washington (USA) to work on his Ph.D. thesis and obtained a Ph.D. degree in December 2010. From January 2011 to July 2013, he was engaged in postdoctoral training in the group of Jonathan Ellman at Yale University. After that, he took an associate professor at the College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering in Xiamen University, and was promoted at 2014. In 2015, he was selected as a Distinguished Professor of Fujian Province's Minjiang Scholars and the Thousand Talents Program. His research interests include electrochemically organic synthesis and free radical chemistry. he has independently published more than 50 papers in international TOP journals such as J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Nature Commun., and has received several important awards such as the Young Chemistry Prize of the Chinese Chemical Society (2017) and The Distinguished Lectureship Award (2018).
In his lecture, Professor Xu introduced the electro-oxidative generation of free radicals and free radical ion intermediates and their synthetical application in the dehydrogenative bond-forming reactions, and presented the outstanding achievements in his research group on the chemistry of electro-oxidation.
Professor Sun thanked Professor Xu Haichao for his wonderful lecture, and expressed his wish for having Professor Xu to visit Nanjing Normal University again in the near future.
