Lecture:Monitoring 'One Health' and Earth Health in the Arctic Region
At the invitation of the School of Chemistry and Materials Science of Nanjing Normal University, Professor Christian Sonne from Aarhus University, Denmark, visited our university for academic exchange on April 21, 2025. He delivered an academic report titled "Monitoring 'One Health' and Earth Health in the Arctic Region" in Room 302 of Huayu Building. More than 30 teachers and students from the discipline of Chemical Engineering and Technology of our university attended this academic report. The report was hosted by Professor Yang Zhen from the Environmental Chemical Engineering Research Group.

Professor Sonne is currently the editor-in-chief of the journal "Environmental Pollution". He has long been committed to research related to global sustainable development goals, with a particular focus on issues such as pollution, energy, biodiversity, and ecosystem health. His research areas include the assessment of multiple stressors in Arctic and European ecosystems, and he explores the impact of pollutants on wildlife and human health through interdisciplinary approaches.
In the lecture, Professor Sonne, based on the theoretical framework of "One Health", systematically expounded the multiple impacts of long-distance migration of industrial pollutants on the Arctic ecosystem. Through his research on fish, seabirds and Marine mammals, he revealed the interaction of the "triple Earth crisis" of pollution, climate change and the loss of biodiversity.
After the lecture, Professor Sonne had in-depth exchanges with the teachers and students present on issues such as Arctic ecological protection, cross-border pollution control, and the practical application of the "One Health" concept. This lecture not only broadened the academic horizons of the teachers and students in our college, but also provided a new opportunity for the college's international cooperation in the field of global health.
