Overview of School of Computer and Electronic Information/School of Artificial Intelligence, Nanjing Normal University

Nanjing Normal University established the computer major in 1984, the electronic information engineering major in 1994, and the communication engineering major in 2000.  In June, 1994, the Department of Computer Science was established on the basis of the Department of Computer Science (Normal) of the School of Mathematics. In May, 1999, the School of Mathematics and Computer Science was founded by the combination of Department of Computer Science, Department of Mathematics, and in April, 2009, School of Computer Science and Technology was established. In September, 2020, in order to accelerate the development and breakthroughs in the field of artificial intelligence, talent training, scientific research and social services, the school decided to reorganize the computer and electronic disciplines to establish the School of Computer and Electronic Information/School of Artificial Intelligence at Nanjing Normal University.




At present, the college has 115 faculty members, 20 professors (including 10 doctoral supervisors), 55 associate professors and doctoral supervisors, 45 master supervisors, two industry professors in Jiangsu Province, and a member of the Computer Curriculum Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, one new century outstanding talent of the Ministry of Education, one teaching evaluation expert of the Ministry of Education, one Young Academic Leader of “Blue Project” in Jiangsu Province, one Outstanding Young Faculty of “Blue Project” in Jiangsu Province,, one awarded “333 Project” in Jiangsu Province, one “Six Talent Peaks Project ”in Jiangsu Province, one Chinese highly cited scholar, one winner of "Yi Xi Elite Teacher Award" in Nanjing Normal University, one was awarded by “Excellent Faculty” in the school and three are awarded by Top-10 Excellent Faculties in the university.


The college has Department of Computer Science and Technology, Department of Electronic Science and Technology, Department of Network and Information Security, Department of Artificial Intelligence, Computing Center, Professional Experimental Teaching Center, Jiangsu Province Information Security Technology Engineering Research Center, Jiangsu Province Intelligent Information Technology and Software Engineering Key Laboratory, Jiangsu Province Key Laboratory of Optoelectronic Technology, Jiangsu Province Advanced Communication Audio Technology Engineering Laboratory, Jiangsu Province Computer Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Jiangsu Province Electronic Information Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Intelligent Information Processing Institute, Natural Language Processing Experiment Laboratory, Cloud Computing and Big Data Laboratory.


The college has Computer Science and Technology, Electronic Science and Technology, and Cyberspace Security three first-level discipline master degree authorization points, Electronic Information Engineering professional degree master authorization points (including Computer Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering two fields) and two-level doctoral degree authorization points in Physical Electronics. In addition, the college recruits PhD students in Computer Science at the doctoral degree authorization sites in Statistics, Mathematics, and Geographic Information Systems. In 2015, the first-class discipline Computer Science and Technology was awarded “Excellent” in the degree evaluation of Jiangsu Province. The school has six undergraduate majors: Computer Science and Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, Electronic Information Engineering, Communication Engineering and Information Management and Information System. Among them, the Electronic Information Engineering is a provincial-level characteristic brand, and the Computer Science and Technology is university-level professional brand.


Computer Science and Technology is a university-level key discipline and the supporting discipline of Jiangsu Province's superior discipline (mathematics). It participates in the construction of the Provincial Collaborative Innovation Center (Geographic Information System), and participates in the first-class discipline alliance construction project of national first-class discipline Geography and national first-class cultivation discipline Pedagogy. The college is guided by the national scientific and technological innovation needs and implements a scientific research strategy of "indomitable", interdisciplinary, and combining theory and application. Computer Science and Technology has achieved a series of scientific research results in the fields of machine learning and pattern recognition, big data mining and applications, cryptography and information security, natural language processing, intelligent technology and applications, and software engineering. Features and advantages have been formed in in machine learning and intelligent software, network and information security, data intelligent processing and mining, etc. In applied basic research, the discipline of Computer Science and Technology has presided national and provincial scientific research projects over more than 70 in the past 5 years, and published CCF A\B and ESI highly cited papers more than 50, and some of the results have reached the international advanced level.

Apply theoretical results to the modeling, design and development of intelligent software such as smart medical care, smart towns, digital watermarking, geographic big data mining and geographic information systems; and strengthen social science and technology services and obtain nearly 90 million yuan in horizontal project funding. The research and development of intelligent fusion of outpatient medical information and automatic triage guidance system, digital Lishui geographic information platform, geospatial information quality evaluation method, etc. won 4 provincial and ministerial awards and more than 30 invention patents. Intelligent medical guidance system and GIS-based intelligent community system have been applied in more than 100 hospitals and more than 100 towns, respectively. The copyright protection digital watermarking system has been applied in more than 300 companies and organizations, which has produced significant impact on the society. More than 30 national patents and 40 software copyrights are granted; Won one Jiangsu Science and Technology Award of and one Nanjing Science and Technology award.


Electronic Science and Technology is a university-level key discipline and the supporting subject of Jiangsu Province's superior subjects (material science and technology). It participates in the project development of the national key research and development plan "Holographic Map Mapping and Service System Platform". Electronic science and technology disciplines are cross-integrated with physics, chemistry, and biology, combined with sound, light, electricity, magnetism, signal processing and other technologies to form audio technology and intelligent system design, micro-nano photoelectric detection and imaging technology, electromagnetic information and remote sensing Technology, optoelectronic information and microelectronic functional materials with obvious advantages A series of results have been achieved in the fields of photoelectric integrated sensing technology, acoustic information processing and imaging, medical ultrasound, micro-nano photoelectric materials, microwave and remote sensing technology, nanometer photonics, electromagnetic and audio GIS, remote sensing information processing, visible light positioning, intelligent control and circuit system design, etc. In the past five years, it has undertaken more than 40 national and provincial projects, and published more than 50 engineering application journal papers such as IEEE transactions, Applied Physics, Optic Express, Nano Letters, Advanced Energy Materials, etc. At the same time, it pays attention to the industry-university-research cooperation to form a good situation of coordinated development of research and development. It proposes the adaptive noise cancellation and speech recognition technology of the new micro-microphone array, establishes the communication audio standard and detection technology with independent intellectual property rights and realized the promotion and application in the mobile phone communication. It successfully solved the key technology of laser self-mixing interference micro-displacement measurement, and won the second prize of Jiangsu Science and Technology Award in 2015.


The college adheres to the philosophy of fostering talents and cultivating "elite talents", creates a high-quality innovative talent training model, implements innovative talent training projects for undergraduates and graduate students, and strengthens education and teaching reforms. In recent years, it has won 1 Jiangsu Provincial Teaching Achievement Award, 2 provincial excellent courses, and published more than 50 textbooks, including 3 textbooks planned by the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan". Students participated in professional competitions such as the National Mathematical Modeling, Programming and Electronic Design Competition and won more than 50 national awards. In recent years, graduate students have won more than 10 outstanding master's theses in Jiangsu Province, and one winner of the fifth national engineering master's internship practice. The graduates have high comprehensive quality and strong practical and innovative ability. Some of them go to high-level universities at home and abroad, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Science and Technology of China, Nanjing University, Southeast University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, etc. Some of them work in well-known IT companies such as Huawei, Baidu, Alibaba, and Sohu, and their graduates are well received by employers. The employment rate of undergraduates is over 98%, the employment rate of postgraduates is 100%, the quality of employment is high, and graduate satisfaction is over 95%.
