Invited Talk of Jia Liu from Nanjing University
On March 18, 2021, Jia Liu, an Associate Professor of Nanjing University, was invited to our school to give an academic talk on “real scene oriented RFID Perception Technology”. The talk was presided over by Professor GenLin Ji, the Dean of the School of Computer and Electronic Information. Some falculties and postgraduate students of our college participated in this activity.
Jia Liu, Associate Professor of Department of Computer Science and Technology, Nanjing University, obtained his PhD. degree in Computer Science and Technology in Nanjing University in 2016, and his main research field is IOT Perception Technology. In recent years, he has published more than 50 papers in international conferences and periodicals such as USENIX NSDI, USENIX ATC, IEEE INFOCOM, IEEE ICNP, IEEE / ACM TNET, IEEE TMC, including more than 20 papers of class A recommended by China Computer Federation (CCF). He has won the Special Gold Award of the Geneva International Invention Exhibition, the Young Science and Technology Award of the Jiangsu Computer Society, the Rising Star Award of ACM Nanjing Branch, the Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of Jiangsu Computer Society, the Special Award of the China International Industry Fair and other honors.
Liu’s talk mainly focused on RFID perception technology. Focusing on the problems of low data sampling rate, unreliable data source, and limited perception range, he introduced technologies such as encoding and masking, reliable perception, and other related technologies in detail.
Liu also demonstrated the RFID perception tags on the spot, allowing everyone to see the transparent, soft, and easy-to-cloning characteristics of the tags, which vividly illustrates the importance of reliable tags for anti-counterfeiting. Also he introduced several anti-counterfeiting technologies such as encryption, returned electromagnetic wave signal detection, and the latest label volatile storage signs. Given the limitation that the label is regarded as a mass point in the traditional work, he introduced the use of polarized media to realize the joint depth perception technology of position and direction and showed the results in a video. Finally, Liu introduced the practical application of chip perception technology such as sleeping position detection, inverted anomaly detection, and material positioning in large-scale storage environments.
Liu had a lively exchange with the teachers and students, and patiently answered everyone's questions in detail. This talk deepened the audience’s understanding of label perception technology, expanded their academic horizons, and provided a lot of inspiration for the research ideas of teachers and students. Everyone thought that the talk was rewarding.
