National "973" Project Chief Scientist Jianxin Wang was invited to give a talk in Room #109 in Mingli Builiding of the school on May 17, 2018. The title of his talk is “Some Major Issues and Optimization Strategies in Data Center Network”. The talk was hosted by Professor Genlin Ji.
Professor Jianxin Wang is a member of Academic Degree Committee of State Council. He is vice dean of the School of Information Science and Engineering, Central South University, deputy director of National Engineering Laboratory of Medical Big Data Applied Technology. He is also the winner of special government allowance. Besides, he is chair of ACM Sigbio China. He is the deputy director of the special technical committee on Bioinformatics of CCF. He is also the chief scientist of the national 973 program, the "special information processing algorithm and physical realization". His current research interests include algorithm analysis and optimization, parameterized algorithm, bioinformatics and computer network. He authored or coauthored more than 200 articles which were published in top journals or conferences, such as TC, TON, TCOM, TCBB, JCSS, Algorithmica, INFOCOM. Furthermore, 3 books were published, and 4 scientific and technological awards were obtained at the provincial and ministerial levels.
Today, more and more real-time online applications are migrated into data centers in order to utilize massive computation and storage resources. However, date centers are also facing several problems such as high concurrency, high transmission delay and unbalancing of network traffic load. At first, the issues and their corresponding solutions in data center networks will be addressed in this report. Then, we will introduce the outcomes of our research group, which include avoiding TCP incast problem by controlling the packet length and numbers of concurrent flows as well as microburst, congestion control algorithm based on the speciality of HTTP stream, transmission control protocol of delay-sensitive flows and load balance algorithm of packet spray based on coding.
After the talk, Prof. Wang discussed with the audiences and answered their questions kindly. The audiences got much inspiration from the talk and the discussion.
Finally, Prof. Wang also attended the consultative conference on discipline development. He proposed some constructive suggestions on the discipline construction of the school.
