Prof. Lijun Chen was invited to give a talk in our school on Mar. 18, 2021. The title of his talk is “Intelligent Robot and the Applications”. The talk was presided over by Prof. Genlin Ji. Some full-time teachers and postgraduates of our school attended this lecture.

 

Lijun Chen, a professor of State Key Laboratory for Novel Software Technology at Nanjing University, the dean of School of Intelligent Robotics, Nanjing University. He is committed to researching in the fields of Autonomous Mobile Robots, Internet of Things Perception, Computer Vision, and Artificial Intelligence, and has published many academic papers in world-class journals and conferences. He develops the world's first intelligent book inventory robot, NJU Tooker, which completely solves the problem of finding books in the library. Up to now, “ cookers ” have been applied in Nanjing University, Wuhan University, China Agricultural University, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Tongji University, CHINA_SINGAPORE FRIENDSHIP LIBRARY and so on, successfully realizing industrialization and winning the highest award, like "the 46th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva ", the special gold medal and “the 22nd China International Industry Fair excellent exhibits”, the grand prize.

Prof. Chen introduced the development path of robots from basic research to creative technology and then achievement transformation. Combining with the deep learning technology and application of the latest scene demand, Prof. Chen explained the key technology of intelligent robots. As for complex scene intelligent navigation and positioning, the optimal path planning, robot vision, robot intelligent control, and other issues, Prof. Chen respectively explained laser SLAM, image processing, and Multi-modal human-computer interaction. He stressed that scientific research should be combined with the major needs of national development. Recently, the intelligent robot has become a national strategy, the application of which in practical scenarios can solve the requirements of social development. Prof. Chen took “ tooker ” as an example, introduced the current situation of the library and the problems that the intelligent robot can solve, and showed the application situation of Nanjing University.

Prof. Chen combined the theory and practical application in his report, showing us the intelligent robot study, the fruitful research achievements, and the applications. Everyone present was touched deeply, cherishing lofty scientific ambitions and determined to carry forward craftsmanship and serve our motherland.
