Professor Xiaoxing Ma was invited to give a talk in our school on Nov. 26, 2020. Prof. Ma, winner of National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, is a Professor of Nanjing University. The title of his talk is “Quality assurance of deep neural networks as software components”. The talk was hosted by Prof. Genlin Ji.
The DNN model is the product of inductive reasoning based on statistics, which is different from the traditional procedure based on deductive reasoning. How to evaluate and improve the performance of this new type of software in the application environment has become an urgent software engineering problem. This talk discusses some of the views in this regard and reports on their work on performance estimation of DNN models for application scenarios (corresponding to software testing) and confidence calibration of DNN models for application scenarios (corresponding to software debugging).
Prof. Ma was humorous, scientific and rigorous. The academic atmosphere of this talk was very strong. After the talk, Prof. Ma had a warm academic exchange with teachers and students.
Professor Xiaoxing Ma has been engaged in the research of software technology facing open environment for a long time. Recently, he pays special attention to the direction of software self-adaptation and quality assurance of intelligent software system. He was PI of the scientific research projects such as the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National 973/863 Project, and the Major Program of National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has published more than 100 papers in academic journals and conferences in domestic and abroad, and won the second prize of the National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology twice (the second and the fourth completion person, respectively).
