Professor Xin Geng, Dean of the School of Computer Science in Southeast University, gave a talk  entitled "mark enhancement: releasing the power of mark space" at the invitation of the School of Computer and Electronic Information on May 13, 2021. The academic presentation was hosted by Professor Ji Genlin, Dean of the school of CEI/AI.

 

In most machine learning paradigms, examples are marked with 0/1, (0 for uncorrelated and 1 for related). In the labeling space generated by this method, all samples can only be placed on the vertices of the unit hypercube, which greatly limits the analysis. By learning the correlation between examples in the training set and the correlation between markers, we can extend the original 0/1 marker to a richer form of category supervision, which makes it possible for more complex analysis operations in the marker space. This process is called "marker enhancement". Through mark enhancement, marking space is expected to be better analysed.

Professor Geng's language is humorous, scientific and rigorous. Thewarm and academic atmosphere of the whole conference greatly broadens the scientific vision of faculties and students. After the academic report, Professor Geng had a lively academic communication with the faculties and students, and the talk was successfully concluded with warm applause.

 

 

 

 

Short Bio:

Xin Geng, Professor of Southeast University, is the Dean of School of Computer Science and Engineering and School of Software. He has been elected as a fellow of International Engineering and Technology Institute (IETI) and was granted by a National Fund Committee’s Youth Program. His main research interests includs pattern recognition, machine learning, computer vision and others. He has published more than 90 papers in important international academic journals and conferences. He won the second prize of the National Natural Science Award and many other teaching and scientific research awards. Currently, he is a member of the Artificial Intelligence Expert Committee of the Ministry of Education, the vice chairman of Jiangsu Computer Society, the vice chairman of Special Committee of CSIG Visual Big Data, and the vice chairman of IEEE Computer Society (Nanjing Branch).
