At 3:30 pm on June 2, 2021, with the invitation of the School of Computer and Electronics Information, a scholar of the Yangtze River Ministry, National Outstanding Youth Award, and Professor Jian Yang, dean of the School of Computer Science, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, gave an academic talk entitled "Pattern Recognition and Visual Perception" in Mingli Building 109 for our school. The academic talk was hosted by Professor Genlin Ji, Dean of the School of Computer and Electronic Information. The full-time teachers and postgraduates of the college participated in this meeting.

In this talk, he mainly introduces two aspects of "human-centered perception" and "car-centered perception". "Human-centered detection methods" mainly include research involved in face detection, pedestrian detection, human tracking and other content research, motivation research, algorithm framework, experimental results, etc. "Car-centric perception" mainly introduces related issues, research contents, and research results in the field of driverless technology.

Professor Yang's language style is humorous and scientifically rigorous. The atmosphere of the whole lecture was warm and academic atmosphere was strong , which greatly broadened the scientific horizons of teachers and students. They benefited a lot from this talk. After the academic talk, Professor Yang had a warm academic exchange with the teachers and students present, and the talk was successfully concluded with warm applause.

Professor Jian Yang, currently the dean of the School of Computer Science, Nanjing University of Science and Technology, a winner of the National Outstanding Youth Fund, and a distinguished professor of the Yangtze River Scholars of the Ministry of Education. In July 2002, he graduated from the Nanjing University of Science and Technology with a Ph.D. in Pattern Recognition. Since 2003, he has been engaged in post-doctoral work or visiting research at the University of Zaragoza in Spain, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the New Jersey Institute of Technology, and the California Institute of Technology. He has been a professor in the School of Computer Science, Nanjing University of Science and Technology since September 2007, and has been the Dean of the School of Computer Science since 2016. He has been engaged in the research of pattern recognition theory and application for a long time and has presided over the key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, and other projects. More than 200 papers have been published in international SCI authoritative journals and top conferences such as IEEE Transactions and Pattern Recognition. His talks have been cited more than 5,000 times in SCI, more than 24,000 times in Google Scholar. Once a single article, which has been cited most, has been cited more than 4,000 times. He served/has served as an editorial board member of the international academic journals Pattern Recognition, IEEE Trans. on Neural Networks and Learning Systems and Pattern Recognition Letters, Neurocomputing. He has been selected as an IAPR Fellow in 2016. He has won 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award (second finisher); 3 first prizes at the provincial and ministerial level. In 2011, he won the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; in 2013, he was selected into the National Hundred and Thousand Talents Project and was awarded the "Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contributions". He has been selected as 2013-2014 Yangtze River Scholar Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education; In 2018, he was selected as a leading talent in science and technology innovation in the Ten Thousand Talents Program.
