On May 14, 2021, from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m, Professor Minling Zhang of the School of Computer of Southeast University gave a talk entitled "Partial markedness learning" at the invitation of the machine learning research group of School of CEI/AI. The academic presentation was hosted by Professor Ming Yang. Many faculties and graduate students of the school attended the presentation.

 

Professor Zhang's talk focused on an important weakly supervised learning framework, such as partial label learning. In this framework, each object has multiple candidate tags at the same time, but only one of them is its real tag. Partial label learning technology has been successfully applied in the fields of multimedia content automatic tagging, natural language processing, ecological informatics, and so on. Professor Zhang introduced the research status of partial markedness learning from three aspects: firstly, he briefly discussed the problem setting of partial markedness learning and its relationship with the related weakly supervised learning framework; secondly, the existing partial labeling learning algorithms were summarized and the latest work of Professor Zhang's research group in this field was introduced; finally, the related academic resources were given.

 

Professor Zhang expressed this clearly and narrated it in detail. The atmosphere of the whole conference was warm and academic, which greatly broadened the scientific vision of teachers and students and benefited them a lot. After the academic presentation, Professor Zhang had a warm academic exchange with the teachers and students present and gave serious and detailed answers to the questions concerned by the teachers and students. The presentation meeting was successfully concluded with warm applause.

Minling Zhang, professor of School of Computer Science and Engineering, Southeast University obtained a bachelor's degree, master's degree, and doctor's degree in Computer Science and Technology Department of Nanjing University in 2001, 2004, and 2007 respectively. His main research fields are machine learning and data mining. At present, he is the standing member of CCF TCAIPR, secretary-general of Machine Learning Special Committee of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, director of the academic working committee of JiangSu Association of Artificial Intelligence. He is the editorial board member of ACM trans. Ist, neural networks, Frontiers of computer science, and other international journals. He was awarded NSFC Outstanding Youth Science Foundation (2012), young scholars selected in the "Yangtze River scholars Award Program" of the Ministry of Education (2015), CCF-IEEE CS young scientists Award (2016), etc.
