[Invited Talk] Professor Weining Qian from East China Normal University

Professor Weining Qian from East China Normal University gave academic report titled New Data Systems for Open Applications: Development and Challenges " in Room 402, Mingli Building, Xianlin Campus, on Nov. 21, 2025. Professor Junsheng Zhou hosted the report.

This report takes the evolution and development of data management systems as the starting point, and introduces the changes in data systems and the development of related technologies from different perspectives such as enterprises and academia. The report also takes data management in the financial field as an example to introduce the work of Professor Qian's research team in the field of new data management systems, including benchmarking, system development, etc., and explores the new challenges and future directions of data management systems in the era of machine learning and big models.

Short Bio:

Weining Qian, a professor at East China Normal University, dean of the School of Data Science and Engineering, and an outstanding academic leader in Shanghai, was selected for the national high-level talent plan in 2021. Currently serving as an executive member of the Database Special Committee of the Chinese Computer Society, vice chairman of the Calculation Standards Special Committee of the Chinese Society for Metrology and Testing, and member of the Artificial Intelligence Technology Innovation Expert Working Group of the Ministry of Education. Has won the National Science and Technology Progress Second Prize once and multiple provincial and ministerial level science and technology awards. My research interests include scalable transaction processing, benchmark evaluation of big data management systems, massive data analysis and processing and their applications, as well as data-driven computational education.
