Professor Yang Yang from Nanjing University of Science and Technology gave academic report titled “Research and Application of Robustness for Open Environment " in Room 402, Mingli Building, Xianlin Campus, on Dec. 3, 2025, at 14:30 pm. Associate Professor Ge Song of the School of Computer and Electronic Information hosted the report.

In today's complex and ever-changing data application scenarios, out of distribution detection plays a crucial role in ensuring model reliability and security. This report explores the construction methods of robust models in different data scenarios. Firstly, regarding the problem of zero sample out of distribution detection, it is introduced how to use multimodal large models to extend known classes and generate pseudo out of distribution samples to assist model learning; Then, the out of distribution detection method based on self-distillation and model pruning was introduced by analyzing the out of distribution detection ability of the model training and decision-making process; Finally, a robust semi supervised learning model for open world detection was introduced.

Short Bio:

Yang Yang is a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Computer Science and Engineering, Nanjing University of Science and Technology. His main research direction is open environment data mining. He has been selected for the National Youth Talent Program and the Youth Talent Support Project of the Association for Science and Technology. He has led key research and development projects for young scientists by the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as outstanding youth fund projects in Jiangsu Province. He has published more than 30 papers in CCF A-class journals and conferences such as IEEE TPAMI, TKDE, ICML, NeurIPS, KDD, and won the Best Paper Award of ACML17 and the Wu Wenjun Youth Science and Technology Award. He has won over 20 championships in domestic and international competitions such as CVPR and ICCV.
