The expert consultation meeting on the construction of first-class undergraduate discipline is held on the afternoon of March 23, 2021.Prof. Jiucheng Xu and Prof. Zhangjie Fu were invited to instruct. Prof. Xu is a professor at Henan Normal University. Prof. Fu is a professor at Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology. The meeting was presided over by Dean Genlin Ji.

 

Prof. Xu gave a talk firstly. The title of his talk is "strengthening the construction of professional connotation and cultivating first-class talents". He discussed how to build a national first-class undergraduate discipline from the perspective of the Education Commission. He introduced the original intention, main tasks, construction principles, progress, professional certification, and several aspects that need to be paid attention to in the construction. Prof. Xu pointed out that the construction of first-class discipline needs to be cultivated and planned, and it needs to be planned from the aspects of the construction of teaching staff, the accumulation of teaching achievements, academic support, and the construction of teaching resources. The college should have the corresponding incentive mechanism and funding guarantee and strengthen the exchange inside and outside the school to broaden the vision.

 

Prof. Fu introduced the basic situation and discipline construction of his college, and discussed his own experience and thinking about teaching from the growth of young people. Prof. Fu deemed that university teachers should pay attention to undergraduate teaching, change the phenomenon of emphasizing scientific research over teaching, seriously teach undergraduate courses, lead undergraduate students to participate in subject competitions, and at the same time, carry out curriculum construction and textbook construction, to strive to obtain the Teaching Achievement Award.

 

The consultation meeting is rich in content and information. The two experts brought new information to the college from different perspectives, which has strong pertinence and guidance for the construction of first-class discipline in our college. The participants were deeply inspired and consulted two experts.

 

Finally, Dean Ji summarized the meeting and expressed that he had gained a lot from the guidance of experts. Our college should take the opportunity of computer science and technology discipline being selected into the national first-class undergraduate discipline construction site, take professional certification as the starting point, further clarify the idea of first-class undergraduate discipline construction, and carry out teaching reform and innovation. As the leaders of undergraduate teaching, department directors and discipline directors should have the courage to take responsibility. College teachers should be enterprising, have the motivation and vigour to work, strike a balance between teaching and scientific research, and make contributions to improve the quality of undergraduate talent training in our college.
