The Mingli Forum —— Faculty Academic Salon Was Held in Our School
On April 21, 2021, an academic salon was held in the School of CEI/AI, which was presided over by Vice President Professor Zhou, with young teachers Wei Xia and Richen Liu giving academic talks, respectively. Also, Vice President Professor Qingyu Ma and some of our teachers participated in the academic salon.
Dr. Xia made an academic talk entitled "Novel Detection Methods for Enhanced Self-Mixing Interferometry". The talk briefly introduces the background and development course of laser self-mixed interferometry technology, as well as the research on speed, absolute distance, displacement, vibration, etc. The research also expounds the specific work carried out by this group in the field of self-mixing interference technology measurement, putting forward and solving some key problems of laser self-mixed interferometry measurement displacement and speed, and innovating in the measurement structure, detection method, precision modulation, and modeming technology, instrument development and so on. The group has formed its own research features. With the increasing maturity of laser self-mixing interferometry technology, it is expected that it will be used more widely in the field of precision sensing measurement.
Dr. Liu made an academic talk entitled "The Fast Customization of Immersive Data Story Animations for Users with Little Programming Knowledge". The report proposes and designs an AR platform that helps the average user establish an AR-based visual re-layouts. Designed for users with little programming knowledge. It is designed for a wide range of complex and complex real objects, such as books, coffee, drinks, food, eye shadows, or even toys. Scanning these complex real objects in real-time and panorama using mobile devices (phones or tablets, etc.), using a series of algorithms designed and optimizing improved neural networks to segment and label target objects, and real-world objects will be heavily laid out in the virtual world to enhance reality. The overall accuracy of the recognitions was improved from 20+% to 76+%. In addition, this talk briefly introduces another of Dr Liu’s recent work on automatically building scientific data story animations in an immersive environment. Given the current challenges of scientific data story animations, a rapid construction method of immersive data story animation based on graphical syntax is proposed, eliminating the need for users to learn complex large-scale parallel programming of scientific data and GPU-based rendering programming.
After the forum, faculties had a fierce discussion on the relevant academic contents. This activity is the first time of the academic salons of “Mingli Forum”, which aims to provide a platform for academic exchange and interaction among our faculties, creating an excellent academic atmosphere of the college, and promote the research and discipline development of our school.
