The Asia Education Leadership Summer Course was successfully held from August 18 to August 30, 2024, at Tohoku University in Sendai, Japan. Several master’s and doctoral students from our university participated in this summer program. The Asia Education Leadership Course (AELC) is a short-term international course jointly organized by five universities: Nanjing Normal University, Tohoku University, Korea University, National Taiwan Normal University, and National Chengchi University. This course, which began in 2014, consists of summer and winter sessions, each lasting about two weeks, and is hosted in rotation by the five universities. This summer session was hosted by Tohoku University, featuring three subprograms: A-P Course, S-P Course, and K-P Course.

During the welcome ceremony, Professor Hideki Kozima, Dean of the Graduate School of Education at Tohoku University, and Associate Professor Liu Jing, Deputy Director of the International Research Exchange Office, delivered speeches, extending a warm welcome to students from the five universities. Following the welcome speeches, the instructors of the AEL Summer Course introduced themselves, and Dr. Lei Cao provided a detailed overview of the course schedule.

 

The summer course covered a wide range of topics, including "Sustainable Development, Globalization, and the Reshaping of Education in the Asia-Pacific Region," "Cognitive Science of Human Communication," "Mental Health and Telepsychology," and "The Right to Education." The course invited experts and scholars from various fields to deliver specialized lectures and facilitate group discussions, exploring current issues in education and inspiring academic thinking. By participating in these courses, graduate students from Nanjing Normal University were able to gain a deep understanding of the latest educational developments in Asia, broaden their international perspectives, and enhance their academic research capabilities.

 

The participating students expressed that this exchange in Japan was a rare learning opportunity, not only broadening their academic horizons but also allowing them to form friendships with peers from around the world. They are eager to apply what they have learned from this exchange to their future studies and research, contributing to the advancement of the education sector.
