On November 8th and 9th, 2016, the “Subject key competences and key abilities research” seminar in Jiangsu province was held in Hexing School, a subsidiary school of Nanjing Normal University. This seminar was co-sponsored by Jiangsu Provincial Primary and Middle School Teaching Research Ofiice and the Institute of Curriculum and Teaching in Nanjing Normal University, co-organized by Teaching Research Office of Education Bureau, Zhang Jiagang City , and undertook by Hexing School. More than 200 teachers and education leaders attended the meeting. This seminar mainly focused on the topics of the theory research, instruction practice and the evaluation revolution of subject key competences and key abilities during compulsory education, as well as the challenges to the teacher development from subject key competences and key abilities.
In the afternoon of November 8th, Director Hongliang Dong of Jiangsu Provincial Primary and Middle School Teaching Research Ofiice presided over the opening ceremony. Lizhong Ma, Deputy Secretary of Education Bureau in Zhang Jiagang City, Yaming Yan, Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Secretary of the Metallurgical Industri Park (Jinfeng Town) and Vice Dean Xiaofeng Zhang from Humanities and Social Science Research Institute in Nanjing Normal University made a short speech respectively, congratulating a complete success of this event beforehand.
After the opening ceremony, Prof. Ping Yu, Director of the Institute of Curriculum and Teaching of Nanjing Normal University, gave a special report on the generation of subject key competences, which mainly focused on the origin and realization of the generation of subject key competences, as well as the evaluation of subject key competences.
Then, the persons responsible for each subject in Jiangsu Provincial Primary and Middle School Teaching Research Ofiice made reports on the research progress of subject key competences and key abilities of Chinese language and mathematics in primary school and Chinese language, mathematics, English, biology, physics , geography and other subjects in junior middle school. After that, Guoqiang Wong, vice dean of Academy of Education Science in Jiangsu Province made a summary of the research progress on each subject, and affirmed the achievements on the research of key competences. He proposed some suggestions about the future research, including combining the theoretical perspectives and cooperating with the theoretical research personnel in colleges.
In the morning of November 9th, delegates and representatives from various schools in Zhang Jiagang City went to Hexing School to listen to their classes. Through the evaluation and discussion activities, teachers had a deeper understanding of how to put subject key competences and key abilities into the classroom teaching.
