Welcome to School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering

The School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering was founded by Nanjing Normal University in 2000,lately was renamed School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering after the discipline structure readjustment in 2010.

In the recent ten years, graduates from this school are working in different industries all over the country, such as chemical, petrochemical, medicine, rubber, electric power, city construction, HVAC(heating, ventilation and air conditioning), cryogenics and refrigeration, environmental protection, power machine, equipment manufacturing, and so on. The graduates are industrious, intelligent and competent, and have earned a good reputation.

The school now has four undergraduate majors, including Energy and Power Engineering, Energy and Environmental System Engineering, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. It is qualified of granting the first level Master’s degree in Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics. Besides, there are Thermal Power Engineering, Refrigeration and Cryogenic Engineering, Fluid Machinery and Engineering as the sub-discipline of the Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics. And we have Heating, Gas Supply, Ventilating and Air Conditioning Engineering and Civil Engineering (direction of HVAC) professional master’s degree programs. Furthermore, the Power Engineering and Engineering Thermophysics of this school is one of the key first level subjects in the university. We also have key scientific research institutes of Jiangsu province, namely Engineering Laboratory for Energy System Process Conversion & Emission Control Technology of Jiangsu Province and Engineering Practical Teaching Center of Energy and Power. Still, key laboratories of university, the Low Carbon and Clean & Efficient Conversion Laboratory for artificial environmental and new energy utilization are also available.

The school holds 72 staff at present, and there are 9 professors, 23 associate professors and 25 doctors among the full-time teachers. The school is also composed of four departments and three centers, including Energy & Power Engineering Department, Building Environment and Energy Application Engineering Department, Mechanical Engineering Department, Lab’s Center of School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Practical Teaching Center and Training Center of School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering.

The teachers of School of Energy and Mechanical Engineering have compiled more than 10 textbooks and treatises, including Engineering Fluid Mechanics, Engineering Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, New and Renewable Energy,Modern Treatment Technologies of Solid Waste, Principles of Boiler, Design of central air conditioning, and so on. Among them, the Modern Treatment Technologies of Solid Waste is rated the provincial excellent textbook.

The school has over 900 undergraduates and more than 80 post-graduate master students since now.The Class of 200603 has been awarded the national advanced collectives. Students of the school have gotten the nomination of Chinese college students' annual figures and national level "Triple-A student". Besides, the honors of provincial level “Triple-A student” and “outstanding student cadres” have been obtained several times by the students. Employment rate of undergraduates exceeds 98%, with graduate student pass rate remained at around 30%, leading the whole university.

As for scientific research, the school committed to address the problems of significant scientific and critical technology in the field of energy dynamics and energy environment. Many achievements have been made in the aspect of clean combustion and pollutant control, energy clean utilization and system integration optimization, new energy application and energy saving technology, as well as refrigeration and air conditioning. More than 20 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects and 100 crosswise tasks have been presided by the school, including National Program on Key Basic Research Project(973 Program), the National Natural Science Foundation of China, science and technology development program of Jiangsu province. More than 300 papers have been published in academic journals and academic conferences at home and abroad and among them over 30 and 60 papers are retrieved by SCI and EI, respectively. More than 30 national invention and utility model patents have also been gotten by the school.

A number of advanced integrated research and development platforms, such as "comprehensive performance testing of air conditioning", "combustion and combustion pollutants test control research" and "artificial environment test research", have been built by the school.

The school is the affiliate unit of Jiangsu Boiler Society and Nanjing Boiler Society. And professors of our school also served as chairman of the society and executive director of Energy Research Association of Jiangsu Province. The journal named HVAC and Refrigeration of Jiangsu Province is edited and published by the school.

Academic exchanges have been established between our school and other colleges, such as the University of Duisburg-Essen, Hochschule Niederrhein, Western Kentucky University, the University of Oklahoma, Nagoya University, and so on. And we have also established student combination cultivation with Swansea University.
