Professor Shi Kun and Associate Professor Li Wei of Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences held a lecture at School of Geography

At the invitation of our school, Professor Shi Kun and Associate Professor Li Wei of Nanjing Institute of Geography & Limnology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, held a wonderful lecture for teachers and students of our college on October 20, 2020 for academic exchanges in the Conference Room 511 of Xingyuan Building.

 

Professor Shi Kun's report is titled "The Temporal and Spatial Variation Characteristics and Ecological Effects of Cyanobacteria Bloom in Lake Taihu". In the report, Shi Kun first briefly explained the definition of cyanobacteria and blooms and the expansion trend of algal blooms in the context of global warming. Then he analyzed the temporal and spatial dynamic characteristics of cyanobacteria blooms in Lake Taihu over the past 20 years in a profound and simple way. Meanwhile, Professor Shi Kun revealed the environmental and ecological effects of cyanobacteria blooms, especially the relationship between cyanobacteria blooms in Lake Taihu and microcystin, particulate phosphorus, transparency and degradation of aquatic vegetation.

    

 

Associate Professor Li Wei’s report is titled "Lake Ecological Dynamics Numerical Simulation and Its Prediction Technology". In the report, Li Wei first briefly introduced two description methods of water current movement, as well as the control equation and numerical solution of water current movement. Then she described the construction and application of the Lake Taihu ecological dynamics model, and demonstrate the application-oriented results of the Lake Taihu cyanobacteria bloom and black bloom monitoring and early warning technology platform. Finally, Associate Professor Li Wei discussed the cooperation direction of remote sensing and hydrodynamic models.

 

The contents of the reports of Professor Shi Kun and Associate Professor Li Wei were pragmatic and thorough. The teachers and students were deeply inspired. After the report, Professor Shi Kun and Associate Professor Li Wei conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions with the teachers and students present. Finally, the report was successfully concluded with warm applause.
