Prof. Josef Strobl has been cooperating in teaching and scientific research for nearly 15 years with faculties of School of Geography, Nanjing Normal University. Based on bilateral agreements, they have launched series of projects in joint training of graduate students and cooperation research, including for co-organizing overseas graduate workstation. In 2017, Prof. Josef Strobl and Prof. Tang Guoan won the grand prize of Jiangsu Province for their teaching achievements, titled with "Exploration and practice of collaborative education mode of postgraduate workstation of GIS subject based on innovation and entrepreneurship".

Dr. Shahnawaz, the coordinator of ‘GeoServices-4-Sustainability (GeoS4S)’ project, gave a presentation about the ongoing ERUSMUS+ KA2 project GeoS4S which is co-funded by the European Commission from 2015 to 2018. He introduced the consortium members of GeoS4S from 10 partner universities located in Europe, China and Thailand, and gave a comprehensive and in-depth explanation of the project, including its preparation, progress, outcomes and future plans.

According to the chairman of the conference, Prof. Tang Guoan from Nanjing Normal University, the conference was co-organized by EU Education and Culture Commission; the Interfaculty Department of Geoinformatics-Z_GIS; School of Geography, Nanjing Normal University; Key Laboratory of Virtual Geographic Environment, Ministry of Education; and Jiangsu Provincial Geographic Information Resource Development and Utilization Collaborative Innovation Center; China Geographical Industry Association Educational and Popular Science Work Committee; Jiangsu Geographical Society and Jiangsu Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Society. The main aim of the EU Erasmus+ (ERASMUS) GeoS4S project is to provide more opportunities for teachers and postgraduates in universities (institutions) to acquire knowledge and skills and to encourage cooperation between high education institutions in supporting modernization, accessibility and internationalization of graduate education.. Nanjing Normal University, as the one of consortium members of the project, jointly developed 20 modules for GIS professional graduate students with nine other universities (institutes).

During the two-day conference, ten team members individually introduced the structures of modules they developed. In the final roundtable discussion, all participants actively expressed their expecting in how to expand the project influence and share of module materials.
