From August 14 to 23, 2020, the 2020 postgraduate "Geographic Big Data Training" summer school was successfully held in our School of Geography. This summer school is sponsored by the China Geographic Information Industry Association Theory and Method Working Committee, China Geographic Information Industry Association Education and Popular Science Working Committee, Jiangsu Postgraduate Education Steering Committee (Science Ⅱ), Jiangsu Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System Society, and undertook by the School of Geography, Nanjing Normal University, with Professor Zhang Xueying as the general manager, co-organized by the Key Laboratory of Virtual Geographic Environment of the Ministry of Education of Nanjing Normal University, the Collaborative Innovation Center for Geographic Information Resources Development and Utilization of Jiangsu Province, and the National Earth System Science Data Center —— the Yangtze River Delta Science Data Center, International Cartographic Association Commission On Cartography in Early Warning and Crises Management, Jiangsu Institute of Geographic Information Industry, Jiangsu Provincial Society of Surveying and Mapping, and Editorial Committee of "Modern Surveying and Mapping". It also won the exclusive sponsorship of Yizhirui Information Technology Co., Ltd.
More than 3,400 students were enrolled in this summer school, and 3,275 students were admitted. The admitted students come from more than 300 universities and research institutes at home and abroad, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University, Lanzhou University, Beijing Normal University, Hohai University, Nanjing Normal University, Nanjing University of Information Technology and other well-known universities and institutions. The summer school schedule is divided into four links: the opening ceremony, expert report, academic salon and closing ceremony. The whole process will be conducted in the form of online live broadcast.
On the morning of August 14, 2020, our school held the opening ceremony of the summer school online, chaired by Professor Zhang Xueying, the person in charge of the summer school. Prof. Tian Lixin, Vice President of Nanjing Normal University, Researcher Lu Feng, Director of the Theory and Method Work Committee of China Geographic Information Industry Association, Director of Education and Science Popularization Work Committee of China Geographic Information Industry Association and Member of Jiangsu Graduate Education Steering Committee (Science II) Professor Tang Guoan Leaders both inside and outside the school expressed high praise and ardent expectations for the holding of this summer school, and sincerely hope that this summer school can provide a good academic exchange platform for experts, scholars, graduate students and undergraduates.
From August 14 to 21, the summer school arranged a variety of expert reports based on the characteristics of the subject. On the first day of the expert report, three experts, Professor Lu Guonian of Nanjing Normal University, Professor Zhu Qing of Southwest Jiaotong University, and Professor Zhu Changqing of Nanjing Normal University, were invited to discuss geographic holography and holographic GIS, natural resource real-life three-dimensional expression and three-dimensional monitoring technology, and geography The three topics of cutting-edge technology and application of data security brought wonderful reports, which were shared with the students online, and the discussion atmosphere was enthusiastic. Also 25 experts and professors in total from Wuhan University, East China Normal University, Strategic Support Forces Aerospace Engineering University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University of Information Technology, Nanjing University, Sun Yat-sen University, Peking University, National Center for Basic Geographic Information, Southeast University, Masaryk University, Central South University, Beijing Normal University, Hohai University, Yizhirui Information Technology Co., Ltd., Nanjing Normal University and many other universities and research institutes brought wonderful reports and many doubts about the students were answered. During the expert's report period, the live online popularity of a single report exceeded 47,000, and the accumulated popularity in multiple days was about 700,000. The students showed extremely high learning enthusiasm and created a good academic atmosphere.
On August 22, the summer school provided a salon time for young students to exchange and learn. The salon covered four topics: the application of new geographic big data technology, remote sensing big data theory and methods, spatiotemporal big data theory and methods, and humanities and social GIS theory and methods. 19 students were selected from undergraduates and postgraduates to report and two comment teachers were invited for each academic salon. In the salon, the students gave wonderful explanations and displays of their research content, and comment teachers put forward professional suggestions on the problems.
On the afternoon of August 23, the closing ceremony hosted by Secretary Su Jin of the School of Geography of Nanjing Normal University was held. Professor Mo Shaoqun, Dean of the Graduate School of Nanjing Normal University, delivered a closing speech, and Zhou Ya, deputy secretary of the School of Geography, Nanjing Normal University, presented awards to the graduates and outstanding students in this training. 145 outstanding students was praised including Xiong Zhengan, Liu Guanqiu, Luo Yuxiang, He Liang, etc. Finally, Professor Wang Tao summarized the summer school and expressed the next step in the future. The summer school training was successfully concluded.
During this summer school, Nanjing ushered in a hot summer day. The conference affairs team led by Professor Zhang Xueying, composed of Teacher Liu Jing, Teacher Cao Xinyun and several graduate students, worked hard for the smooth holding of the event. This summer school is rich in content and wide in coverage, involving geography, computer, mathematics, surveying and mapping and other subjects, providing students with valuable opportunities to learn related professional knowledge and a platform for communicating with experts. The students all said that they have benefited a lot, and they can strengthen communication, broaden their horizons, enlighten wisdom, and make friends through this activity, which has further created a strong academic atmosphere.
