On the evening of June 3rd, 2017, English Majors Grades 2014 and 2015 jointly put on a revised Shakespearean play A Midsummer Night's Dream. That was a part of the series of events held under the NNU Students' Innovation Programs--Drama Association headed by Lu Zhao a junior and supervised by Hong Ye and Wen Qin, two English faculty members.
The new play in English was revised by a student group headed by Kanjing He and directors were Lu Zhao and Peiyao Xu (specially invited from Nanjing University). Ying Zhan was responsible for fine art on the stage. Xi Ge and Yue Yin prepared music effect.
Student actresses in the play were Man Luo (as Annie), Jie Jiang (as Mike), Jinghua Feng (as Linda), Yawen Ji (as Daniel), Qing Zhang (as Bill), Yifei Zhang (as Alice), Yuqing Meng (as Edmund). Xingqi Yao and two faculty members Xiaoyang Cao and Haibo Wang acted as Puck, Titania and Oberon (goddesses and a god) respectively in the play.
The play was adapted to Xianlin Campus, with the environment of campus life and love. The story involved two generations of people, with lots of episodes, misunderstandings and a happy ending. The students' performance was all wonderful, under the artistic direction of Lu Zhao and Peiyao Xu.
Their makeup and costumes were so superb, fancy and attractive that even cosmeticians invited the actresses and the actor to take pictures together with them.
More than two hundred people came to view the play, including faculty members, their spouses and children, as well as other people from all walks of life. Particularly worth mentioning amongst the audience were English faculty from the United States, Julia and Gabby, who also provided lots of aid and advice to the actresses and directors. Vice-Secretary Suping Yang of CPC Committee of GC also came to watch the play, which proved to be great encouragement to all actresses/actor and the drama group.
After the performance of the play, many people from the audience went up to take pictures and to communicate with the drama group. It was a memorable success. (reportage: Haibo Wang)
