Hongai Media Lecture 241th Issue | Workshop on Publishing in International Academic Journals
On the morning of December 26th, the 241st session of the "Hongai Media Lecture" at the School of Journalism and Communication of Nanjing Normal University was successfully held in Conference Room 102 of the New Communication Building in Suiyuan Campus. Professor Jiang Hua, Vice Dean of the Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University, presented a workshop titled "Guidelines for Writing and Submitting Academic Journal Articles" and a presentation on Syracuse University's master's and doctoral programs to our students. This lecture is hosted by Professor Zou Ju, Vice Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Jiang Hua analyzed the importance of academic publication for researchers from the perspective of "why publish articles in academic journals". Secondly, Professor Jiang Hua specifically introduced the steps of writing international journal articles: selecting research topics, conducting literature reviews, proposing clear research questions, collecting and analyzing data, drafting articles, and emphasizing structure and clarity. While introducing the steps, Professor Jiang Hua emphasized the importance of writing a paper according to a certain outline structure. Later, she emphasized that publishing an article also requires selecting a suitable journal, and mentioned the submission and peer review procedures for the article.
In the following time, Professor Jiang Hua gave a detailed introduction to the master's and doctoral programs of Syracuse University to the students. Firstly, he provided an overview of Syracuse University as a private research-oriented university in the United States. Secondly, he gave a specific introduction to the situation of the Newhouse School of Public Communication, such as the school's certification by the Accreditation Committee for Journalism and Mass Communication Education (ACEJMC), highlighting its professionalism and educational level. Next, Professor Jiang Hua introduced the history of the Newhouse School of Public Communication and mentioned that the school has its own career guidance center, which can help students prepare for employment while studying. Finally, Professor Jiang Hua introduced the detailed rules for pursuing master's and doctoral programs, as well as the training objectives and graduation requirements for doctoral programs. As the end approached, Professor Jiang Hua had a lively interaction and exchange with the students present, patiently answering their questions.
Professor Jiang Hua was invited to visit and had cordial conversations with the leaders of the School of Journalism and Communication at Nanjing Normal University on topics such as student development and international exchange. The two sides aim to further expand cooperation channels and will continue to make efforts in promoting academic exchanges, teacher-student visits, academic publications, and joint training in the future.
