On the afternoon of December 7th, in the lecture hall 102 in the building of School of Journalism & Communication, Professor Tong Bing, the Distinguished Professor and the doctoral supervisor of Fudan University, was invited to our school to give us one of Marxist Views of Journalism Lecture Series. In the lecture, Professor Tong Bing, teachers and students learned the report of General Secretary Xi Jinping and reflected on the current supervision of the press public opinion. Zhang Xiaofeng, the dean of our school, hosted the lecture.
Professor Tong Bing said that World Marxism Conference would be held in Asia the next year, so it would be an important oppportunity for China to develop Marxism and journalism education. He along with Fudan University is hoping that General Secretary Xi Jinping could give some advice on the journalism education at this moment.
Ⅰ News Media and the Social Principal Contradictions of Our Country
As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era, the principal contradiction facing Chinese society has evolved. What we now face is the contradiction between unbalanced and inadequate development and the people's ever-growing needs for a better life. Professor Tong kept up the pace with the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, analysed the principal contradiction of our country, and looked back on the hard times. He told us the story of the famlilies in 1980s who only own a pair of pants for the whole family to contrast past misery with present happiness, and teached us to never forget why you started and keep moving.
Ⅱ The Fundamental Strategy and Journalism Development on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era
Professor Tong Bing said that we must raise our consciousness of politics and the overall situation for the construction of journalism, and we should consciously maintain a high degree of consistency with the CPC Central Committee in thoughts, politics and actions. He cited an example of Jilin Daily here. Jilin Daily used a whole forum's location to tell people what they should do when the war comes. For the journalism construction of the new era, we must therefore continue commitment to our people-centered philosophy of development.
Ⅲ Follow Xijinping's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and Practice the New Historical Mission of the Public Opinion Direction of Journalism.
In the decisive phase to build China into a comprehensive moderately prosperous society with the national effort, journalists should fully understand the characteristics of the new era and define our own social responsibilities. In the age of new media, there will always be some problems that need us to study and to solve.
Ⅳ Strengthen the Construction of the First Class Journalism Discipline and Train Qualified Journalists for News Public Opinion Direction of New Era
Professor Tong Bing analysed the new problems that we journalists face and the tasks as well as the requirements of current journalistic education reform. He said, pleasantly but sternly, that we should recognize our responsibilities, and learn to grasp the characteristics of our age. In conclusion, he give us a verse, "Not angling for compliments, I would be content that my integrity fills the universe", to encourage us to never forget why you started and keep moving.
Professor Tong speaks with fervour and humour, and he who has been working as a journalist for almost half a century stands all the lecture. All of these earned the respect of all of us.
