Forensic Science Practice Lecture Successfully Held Professor Zhu Jinfeng Delivers In-Depth Analysis on Forensic Practice and Scientific Evidence Review
on April 7, 2026,an online lecture themed Forensic Science Practice was successfully held. The lecture was given by Professor Zhu Jinfeng, who systematically taught the management system, practical procedures, industry pain points, and the review and certification of scientific evidence in forensic science. The lecture was both theoretically in-depth and practice-oriented,which effectively consolidated students’ professional knowledge and broadened their research horizons.
In the lecture,Professor Zhu Jinfeng first explained the core framework of forensic science, including its classification and management structure. He noted that China’s forensic science covers four major categories—forensic medicine, physical evidence,audio-visual materials, and environmental damage—as well as other related fields, under a classified management system. He elaborated on the dual-track system consisting of internal appraisal institutions under investigative organs and social forensic appraisal institutions, and pointed out the challenge of balancing public welfare of state-owned institutions and profit-seeking nature of private institutions, helping students form a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
Regarding practical procedures,Professor Zhu used typical cases to analyze case acceptance, appraisal implementation, review mechanisms, withdrawal rules, privacy protection, and time limits. He emphasized the expert responsibility system and proposed that review should focus on procedural checks. He also highlighted the key requirements that appraisal materials must be cross-examined by both parties and expert reports should be issued in standard format, clarifying practical norms and risk boundaries.
On appraisal standards and admissibility difficulties,he analyzed the hierarchical relationship among national, industrial, and institutional standards, encouraged appraisal institutions to develop stricter institutional standards certified by neutral authoritative bodies to overcome admissibility challenges and promote technological upgrading.
In the part of scientific evidence review,Professor Zhu interpreted the institutional significance of changing “expert conclusion”to“expert opinion,”stressing that expert opinions must be strictly cross-examined. He introduced various types of scientific evidence such as inspection reports, test data, and technical investigation opinions, warned against over-reliance on technical conclusions, and put forward the idea of expert jurors to improve the quality of evidence review. On hot issues such as revocation of expert opinions and institutional innovation,he advocated using existing remedies like reappraisal, appeal, and retrial instead of creating new systems blindly, balancing justice and efficiency.
The lecture was well-structured,logically clear, and targeted at practical difficulties. It comprehensively improved students’ understanding of forensic practice and evidence rules, laid a solid foundation for professional study, practical application and academic research, and positively promoted the talent cultivation for forensic science.
