LI Qian Embraced Dubble Award of the 7th National University Legal English Contest

On 3rd and 4th December 2016, the 7th National University Legal English Contest was held in China University of Political Science and Law. LI Qian, a postgraduate of Nanjing Normal University School of Law, got the fifth rank and won the second prize in the final Legal English Speech. In addtion, he also took part in Legal English Writing and finally won Excellence Award, under the guidance of Professor JIANG Tao.


It was said that the topic of this competition is ‘Express Your Legal Point of View in English’ including two parts:one is Legal English Speech, another is Legal English Writing. Participants sat for it from across the country involving 21 universities and 5 Law Firms. The Legal English Writing is about expressing legal point of view in English, and the Legal English Speech contains preliminary and final matches.


On 3rd December 2016, The preliminary match of Legal English Speech was held on. LI Qian chose the topic of ‘Views of Minor Offenses within Our Country’ expressing in clear logic and in a blunt way. He fully expressed himself creativelly and won wide applause from judges and audience, smoothly qualifying for the final.


On 4th December 2016, LI Qian also did good job. He selected the topic of ‘abortion’, combining clear legal thought and powerful speech in 3 minutes. In this process, plenty of legal maxims and law articles were quoted by him. From this, we can know that he accumulated a lot from what he is able to access to. In the part of answer-and-question, Professor Keith Christie asked him one question about what he expressed, LI Qian could be in quick action and expressed clearly and logically, so that Professor Keith Christie was satisfied with his answers and gave the high points.



Finally he got the fifth rank and won the second prize in the final Legal English Speech. What’ more, his name was also sparkled in the list of Legal English Writing with the topic of ‘Five Falsifications of Life Imprisonment in China’s Criminal Law’. Let’s congratulate him on these prizes and wish more people learn from him to improve speaking English.
