On January 16, 2018, at the invitation of Prof. Guang Yang from School of Life Sciences (SLS) of Nanjing Normal University (NNU), Prof. Fuwen Wei came and delivered a report for an academic visit and communication in NNU. Prof. Wei is an academician and a professor in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation Biology, Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Science.
In the morning, Prof. Wei gave an academic lecture titled “Conservation biology of giant panda” for the teachers and graduate students in the School of Life Sciences. In the report, Prof. Wei pointed out the past, present and future status of endangered species in China, especially the giant and red pandas. Then, he introduced the giant panda’s evolutionary and demographic processes, as well as the adaptive mechanism of bamboo diet and pseudo-thumb development by using state of the art methods based on macro-ecology and micro (molecular)-ecology. After the report, Prof. Wei had in-depth academic exchanges with the attending teachers and students, and made detailed answers to the audience' questions.
