【Academic Report】 83rd Session of the “Chen Bangjie Forum”: Functional Mechanisms of Pathogen Effector-Mediated Host Substrate Modification
On the afternoon of June 8 at 2:00 PM, the 83rd session of the Chen Bangjie Forum, hosted by the School of Life Sciences, was successfully held at Xingzhi Building, Xianlin Campus. At the invitation of Professor Lu Ling from the School of Life Sciences at Nanjing Normal University, Professor Ouyang Songying from Fujian Normal University delivered an academic lecture titled “Functional Mechanisms of Pathogen Effector-Mediated Host Substrate Modification.” The event was met with enthusiastic participation from both faculty and students.

In his talk, Professor Ouyang systematically explained how Legionella pneumophila employs secreted effector proteins to manipulate the host ubiquitination pathway, thereby evading immune surveillance. His insights provided important theoretical foundations for understanding the molecular mechanisms of microbial pathogenesis. He offered an in-depth analysis of the biological structure and function of several key effector proteins, vividly illustrating how pathogens precisely regulate host cell signaling pathways. Professor Ouyang also emphasized the clinical significance of such fundamental research, particularly in uncovering the nature of infection and guiding the development of anti-infective therapeutics.
The lecture enhanced participants’ understanding of L. pneumophila pathogenicity and raised awareness about the importance of preventing and controlling microbial infections. Following the presentation, an engaging Q&A session took place, during which Professor Ouyang responded thoughtfully to questions from the audience. The lively discussion reflected the high level of interest in the topic.
The lecture delivered cutting-edge content and insightful perspectives, significantly broadening the academic horizons and research approaches of the attendees. The event concluded successfully with enthusiastic applause.
