【Academic Report】“Chen Bangjie Forum” 65th
On the morning of November 22 at 9:00 AM, the 65th session of the "Chen Bangjie Forum" hosted by the College of Life Sciences was successfully held in the circular conference room on the third floor of Xingzhi Building. At the invitation of Professor Xu Kai, Professor Li Zhenghe from Zhejiang University delivered an academic lecture titled "Plant Virus Transient Delivery Systems and Gene Editing." The lecture was chaired by Professor Xu Kai and saw enthusiastic participation from faculty and students across the college.
During the lecture, Professor Li Zhenghe elaborated on the construction of a reverse genetics system for plant negative-strand RNA viruses and the methodological development for expressing gene editing systems like CRISPR-Cas9 and base editors in plants using this system. He further introduced the technical principles and advantages of applying this system to gene editing in peppers, using the editing of the recessive antiviral gene eIF4E as an example to illustrate its application in pepper variety improvement.
After the lecture, Professor Li engaged in a lively discussion and exchange with the attending faculty and students. He addressed questions about the vector construction methods, technical challenges, and potential applications of the system in other crops.
