【Academic Report】 In Celebration of the 120th Anniversary of the Founding of Nanjing Normal University, "NNU• School of Life Science" Cloud Lecture Hall, Lecture 5: Research on the Evolutionary Conservation Genomics of Endangered Mammals
To celebrate the 120th anniversary of Nanjing Normal University, our school held the cloud lecture series of " NNU· School of Life Science ". At 10:00 am on June 10, 2022, the fifth lecture was successfully held through the Tencent conference. This lecture invited researcher Hu Yibo from the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences to give an academic report entitled "Research on Genomics of Evolution and Protection of Endangered Mammals". The report was chaired by Wang Pengcheng from the School of Life Science. Some teachers and graduate students of the college attended the report.
At the report meeting, researcher Hu Yibo discussed (1) the genomics mechanism of the convergent evolution of Ailuropoda melanoleuca and Ailurus fulgens, (2) the molecular mechanism of the co-evolution of non-model mammals such as Ailuropoda melanoleuca and their parasitic roundworms, (3) carnivores such as Ailuropoda melanoleuca Chromosome evolution law of species, (4) classification and evolution history of Ailurus fulgens, and (5) takin species definition and local adaptation mechanism are introduced in detail, showing the latest related fields for teachers and students of our school. The research progress provides important research ideas for the evolution and conservation of genomics of endangered animals. At the end of the report, teachers and students of our school and researcher Hu Yibo conducted further experience sharing and Q&A exchanges, and teachers and students benefited a lot.
Biography of Researcher Hu Yibo: Researcher at the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Ph.D. supervisor, deputy secretary-general of the Zoological Society of China, and secretary-general of the Veterinary Branch of the Zoological Society of China. Researcher Hu Yibo has been working on the conservation genetics, genomics, and adaptive evolution of endangered mammals such as giant panda, red panda, horned antelope, and snow leopard, focusing on the spatial and temporal patterns of genetic diversity and endangered history, convergent evolution, synergistic evolution, and chromosomal evolution. The papers have been published in PNAS, Science Advances, Genome Biology, Molecular Biology and Evolution, Nature Communications, Molecular Ecology, Ecology, and other important international academic journals as correspondence/first/co-first authors, and have received wide attention and reports from international peers and scientific media. So far, more than 70 academic papers have been published in important academic journals at home and abroad. In 2018, it was funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China's Outstanding Youth Science Fund. He has won the honorary titles of an outstanding member of the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the second prize of the National Natural Science Award (ranked third), and the national outstanding young animal ecology worker.
