Academic report: New regulators of endothelial vWF secretion: their implication in vascular hemostasis and thrombosis

Invited by Dr. Chen Huaqun, professor of School of Life Sciences, professor Luo Jincai who comes from Beijing University, gave a speech on the afternoon of November 29, 2017. The title was “New regulators of endothelial vWF secretion: their implication in vascular hemostasis and thrombosis”. About 40 audiences including some faculties and graduate students, undergraduate students from Nanjing Normal University, as well as Nanjing University and Nanjing Chinese Medicine University, attended the meeting.

Professor Luo mainly introduced his recent work on the regulation of the vWF secretion in vascular endothelial cell. vWF plays very important roles on the homeostasis and thrombosis. The dysfunction in production and secretion of vWF is a main cause of von Willebrand disease, the most common inherited bleeding disorder worldwide. The mechanism under has yet to be understood. By using of Spinning disk confocal microscope and other techniques, they found that a focal adhesion protein and an F-actin related protein, were involved in the process. Their work gave new light not only on the pathological process of von Willebrand disease, but also on the basic knowledge of cell biology.
