Academic Report:Using Bioinformatics to Identify New Regulatory Mechanisms

Dr. Xiujie Wang, Professor of Institute of Genetics and Development Biology in Chinese Academy of Science at the invitation of School of Life Sciences, by Prof. Cheng Deng came to our college for academic exchange on June 21, 2019. Prof. Wang gave a talk entitled “Using Bioinformatics to Identify New Regulatory Mechanisms” at the meeting room on the 3rd floor of School of Life Sciences at 15:00 p.m.

In the report, Prof. Wang first described the markers for evaluating the pluripotency of mouse embryonic stem cells. Then she gave the findings that identification of a mouse iPSC pluripotency correlated miRNA cluster. Repressed miRNAs are within the Dlk1-Dio3 miRNA cluster. The miRNA cluster is only present and conserved in mammalian genomes. Expression of Dlk1-Dio3 region miRNA cluster is positively correlated with the pluripotent level of ESCs. Then she gave a systematic explanation how miRNA clusters regulate the pluripotency of mouse embryonic stem cells and how ubiquitously expressed genes regulated to participate in cell type specific networks. After the report, Prof. Wang answered questions carefully and had in-depth academic exchanges with the attending teachers and students on related issues and let them benefited greatly.
