On June 3, 2026, the Scoolof Marine Science and Engineering held the third session of the "Deep Blue Intelligence" Academic Salon. The event was chaired by Professor Yin Shaowu and featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Wang Tao, Dr. Ning Xianhui, and Dr. Li Chaoran, each delivering insightful presentations on their respective research fields.
Dr. Wang Tao presented on the "Research Progress in the Creation of New Pufferfish Varieties." He systematically introduced the team's achievements in breeding new low-temperature-tolerant varieties of obscure pufferfish (Takifugu obscurus) and creating all-female germplasm. His talk highlighted the breeding process, the molecular mechanisms underlying low-temperature tolerance, and key technologies for sex control. The team aims to continue focusing on the creation of new fish varieties to support the national strategy of "seed industry revitalization."
Dr. Ning Xianhui gave a talk on the "Antibacterial ceRNA Mechanism in Yellow Catfish (Pelteobagrus fulvidraco)." Using a yellow catfish model co-stressed by hypoxia and bacterial infection, she elucidated the molecular mechanism by which lnc432 acts as a ceRNA by competitively binding to miR-21-y, thereby relieving the inhibition of DAPK2 expression. She further clarified how this ceRNA axis regulates antibacterial infection through the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway. These findings deepen the understanding of the environment-pathogen-host interaction and provide new targets and perspectives for breeding hypoxia-tolerant and disease-resistant yellow catfish strains.
Dr. Li Chaoran presented on "Occurrence, Risks, and Early Warning of Combined Pollution from Emerging Contaminants in Marine Environments from a 'One Health' Perspective." The report addressed low-abundance exposure, combined transport, and long-term ecological risks of emerging marine contaminants. He systematically introduced the mechanisms of microplastics as reactive interfaces and pollutant carriers in radionuclide transport, the spread of antibiotic resistance genes, the microbial effects of PFAS in sediments, and the treatment of PPCPs and endocrine disruptors. He further discussed research strategies for risk identification, pollution control, and the construction of intelligent early warning systems for marine emerging contaminants by integrating high-throughput detection, machine learning, and multi-source monitoring data, and proposed directions for future collaboration.
