Strengthen monitoring, prevention and control to serve the aquaculture of river crab

With the temperature rising gradually, the frequent occurrence of diseases in the process of crab breeding will cause substantial economic losses. For instance, liver and pancreas necrosis of crab had a negative impact on the aquaculture of the Chinese mitten crab in Wujin District of Changzhou City last year. 

In order to reduce the occurrence of the disease, and to analyze and predict the incidence of this year, Dr. Meng Qingguo, associate professor of the school of marine science and engineering of Nanjing Normal University, with his team came to Changzhou Herun Fishery Co., Ltd. to conduct random sampling analysis. The samples taken will be tested for the targeted pathogen in the laboratory of the NJNU.


Dr, Meng's team mainly serves the breeding industry of river crab in Jiangsu Province. This focus of this year is the epidemiological investigation, source tracking investigation, insecticide resistance survey and other research on the hepatopancreatic necrosis syndrome, trembling disease and bacterial diseases of river crab. Meanwhile, the green comprehensive prevention and control technology of river crab diseases is to be established, combined with other related technologies such as immune prevention, green ecological breeding. The crab aquaculture area of Wujin District is nearly 30000 mu. With the continuous upgrading of disease monitoring and green control technology, the team can analyze the potential occurrence of some important diseases of river crab 2-3 weeks in advance, which provides guidance to the breeding households to apply safe medication effectively.
