As a series of activities to celebrate the 120th anniversary of Nanjing Normal University, the School of Physical Science and Technology launched a brand lecture series " NanGaoShi· Physics Lecture", inviting young and middle-aged outstanding physicists at home and abroad to give lectures. On March 2, 2023, Professor Chen Wei of Nanjing University made an academic report entitled "Non-Hermitian skin effect related phase transition and its realization in condensed matter system". More than 40 teachers, undergraduates and graduate students from the Academy of Sciences attended the report.

Non-Hermitian Hamiltonian dynamics is one of the hot spots in condensed matter physics research in recent years. Professor Chen Wei introduced that their research team used the binding effect of magnetic field to offset the non-Hermitian skin effect in the two-dimensional asymmetric transition system, resulting in the disappearance of point energy gap. They approximate the motion of a quantum system to a classical equation of motion through canonical dynamics, and verify the consistency of the two methods through the quantization of orbits.

At the end of the report, the teachers and students asked questions about the non-Hermitian system and canonical quantization, and Professor Chen patiently answered them one by one. Through this report, students have a deep understanding of non-Hermitian system dynamics.

Brief  introduction of Professor Chen Wei:

Chen Wei received his bachelor's degree from Southeast University in 2009 and his doctorate degree from Nanjing University in 2014. From 2014 to 2019, he worked at School of Science, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics. From 2017 to 2019, he was a visiting scholar and postdoctoral fellow at the Institute of Theoretical Physics at ETH Zurich. He has been a professor at the School of Physics, Nanjing University since 2020.
