【NanGaoShi·Physics Salon】Professor Li Xiaqing - "Research on the Spin Structure of Nucleons Using Polarized ³He Targets"

On May 12, 2025, the "NanGaoShi·Physics Salon" series of academic activities was successfully held at Nanjing Normal University. This salon was jointly organized by the School of Physical Science and Technology of Nanjing Normal University, the Institute of Frontier Physics and Interdisciplinary Sciences, and the Nanjing Physical Society, and was held in Room 437 of Xingjian Building on the Xianlin Campus. The lecture was chaired by Professor Huang Hongxia from the School of Physical Science and Technology. It attracted many teachers, students, and researchers in the field of physics.

In the report, Professor Li pointed out that a deep understanding of the internal dynamics of nucleons described by quantum chromodynamics is a key goal in the research of medium - and high - energy nuclear physics. Electron scattering is an ideal method to probe the structure of nucleons. Deep inelastic scattering (DIS) can achieve three dimensional image of the distribution of quarks and gluons inside nucleons. Due to its unique spin properties, polarized ³He has been widely used as a polarized neutron target in DIS experiments on the neutron structure. In recent years, the development of high - magnetic - field polarized ³He technology has provided new opportunities for high - precision DIS experimental measurements. Professor Li introduced the experimental methods for studying the spin structure of nucleons using polarized ³He  in detail, and focused on the latest technological progress in achieving ³He polarization in a high - magnetic - field environment.

The "NanGaoShi·Physics Colloquium" adheres to the concept of "Upholding Virtue, Benefiting Mankind, Studying Diligently, and Acting Promptly", and has built an excellent platform for academic exchanges. Professor Li Xiaqing's report not only broadened the horizons of students of Nanjing Normal University and participants in the frontier field of nuclear physics, but also provided new ideas and directions for academic research and cooperation in related fields. In the future, Nanjing Normal University will continue to hold such academic activities to promote the development and innovation of physics and related interdisciplinary subjects.
