On 22 June 2021, at 15:00, the 85th Gao Juefu Psychological Lectures and Psychology Department Centennial Celebration Expert Forum was successfully held via Tencent Conference. Professor Deng Chiping, PhD supervisor and Director of the Centre for Research on Psychological Development (Disorders), School of Psychology and Cognitive Science, East China Normal University, delivered a lecture entitled "The Comprehensive Quality Basis for Sustained High Academic Achievement: An Exploration Based on a Developmental Tracking Study". The lecture was hosted by Professor Wang Yunqiang, Vice Dean of the School of Psychology, Nanjing Normal University, and some teachers and students of the School of Psychology attended the lecture.
Professor Deng is a council member of the Chinese Psychological Society, an associate editor of Psychological Science and a member of the Professional Committee on Developmental Psychology; a standing member of the Shanghai Psychological Society; and a member of the International Society for the Study of Behavioural Development (ISSBD). Professor Deng's research areas include: cognition and language development, cognitive development and learning disabilities and their cognitive neural basis, cognitive-emotional-motivational developmental basis of learning in children and adolescents, and developmental tracking studies of innovative and high-achieving students.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Deng Chi-ping introduced the current status and problems of the education reform with the introduction of "Education Reform". Based on this background, Deng's research group has used the strengths of the discipline of developmental psychology, combined with educational practice, to conduct continuous research on innovative high school students, focusing on two aspects: What are the developmental characteristics of top students that distinguish them from others? What are the conditions that underlie their sustained effect? Professor Deng Chi-ping gave a detailed account of the thinking and methods used by the research team in the follow-up study. Finally, he gave an outlook on the practical application of the research results and future research directions.
At the end of the lecture, the teacher and the students had an in-depth discussion on tracking research methods, systematic coordination of development, and application of theories! The lecture was rigorous and professional, combining theory and practice, which greatly broadened the audience's research horizons and ideas, and promoted academic exchanges in the College.
