On the morning of September 21, the 43th Gao Juefu Psychological Lecture was held at the Conference Room 108 of the School of Psychology, Nanjing Normal University. Prof. Zhu Liqi, who comes from the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, was invited to give a lecture entitled “The Use of Electronic Devices and Child Development”. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Liu Guixiong, and attracted a large audience including some faculty and PhD and master students from our School of Psychology.
To start the lecture, Prof. Liu Guoxiong introduced Prof. Zhu Liqi to the audience. Prof. Zhu is a Ph.D. supervisor at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. Her research focuses on children’s cognitive development and social behavior. She has published over 100 top journal articles and book chapters in the field of developmental psychology.
In the lecture, Prof. Zhu first gave examples showing the use of electronic devices plays an important role in child growth and development. She then introduced some theories, such as acculturation theory, media substitution theory, and social cognitive theory, that related to use of electronic devices and child development, and suggested some researches focused on how use of electronic media influences children’s cognitive, social, and language development. At the end of the lecture, Prof. Zhu also introduced some interesting related studies conducted by her laboratory and encouraged students who attended the lecture to explore related topics with confidence.
In the last Question & Answer session, Prof. Zhu with the teachers and students who attended the lecture had a positive interaction. The lecture arose the great interests of the audience and was ended in applause.
