On the afternoon of October 31, 2020, Prof. Liu Zhengkui, who comes from the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy Sciences, gave a lecture entitled “Discussion on the Mode of Psychological Assistance during the COVID-19 Pandemic”. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Deng Zhu (Dean of our School of Psychology, Nanjing Normal University). Prof. Liu Guoxiong, Dr. An Yuanyuan, and other faculty and students from our School of Psychology attended the lecture.
Prof. Liu Zhengkui the director of the CAS Key Laboratory of Mental Health, Institute of Psychology. His research interest mainly focuses on major stress events and mental health, children's creativity development, etc. In this lecture, Prof. Liu first introduced the work of psychological assistance during the period of 2008 Sichuan earthquake, compared it with the work during the COVID-19 Pandemic, and indicated the contributions and improvements of our psychological aid workers. He then pointed out that the influence of the Pandemic on the mental health of the general public, such as increases our negative emotions like fear and anxiety, creates long-term psychological trauma, and some people would even show symptoms of post-traumatic stress. Finally, Prof. Liu introduced the challenge of psychological assistance and the application of new techniques (such as the internet-based psychological assistance) under the COVID-19 Pandemic.
In the last Question & Answer session, Prof. Liu had positive discussions with the faculty and students. The lecture arose the great interests of faculty and students and was ended in applause.
