On the afternoon of November 4, 2020, Dr. Chen Guanghui, who comes from the School of Psychology, Shangdong Normal University, gave a lecture entitled “School-bullying Prevention Programs in Primary and Middle Schools”. The lecture was hosted by Prof. Wang Yunqiang ( ViceDean of our School of Psychology, Nanjing Normal University). More than a hundred faculty and students from our School of Psychology attended the lecture.
Dr. Chen Guanghui is an associate professor and his research interest mainly focuses on developmental psychology, in particular on how bullying victimization heightens cortisol response to psychosocial stress in Chinese Children. In this lecture, Dr. Chen introduced the major research findings on school bullying in mainland China. School bullying is a common phenomenon with relatively high prevalence in all countries investigated and China should not be an exception. Although the problem of bullying/ victimization among children in Chinese schools has been a major concern for the government and the public, and bullying is prohibited in the Regulations of Primary and Middle School Students issued by the Ministry of Education, scientific research on school bullying in mainland China only has a very brief history. He then introduced school-bullying prevention programs targeted at the individual level and how these programs would ameliorate the harmful effects of victimization.
In the last Question & Answer session, Dr. Chen had positive discussions with the faculty and students. The lecture arose the great interests of faculty and students and was ended in applause.
