Ding Yaping, a researcher from Chinese National Academy of Arts, came to our college for online academic exchange

On the afternoon of June 26, 2020, at the invitation of the key discipline of Drama and Film and Television of our institute, Ding Yaping, a researcher of Chinese National Academy of Arts, delivered an academic lecture and subject consultation entitled "Constructing Chinese Film History: Theory and Practice" at Tencent conference. The lecture and consultation activities were hosted by Professor Wang Hui, director of Drama and Film and Television, and listened by teachers and graduate students majoring in Drama and Film Studies.


Ding Yaping, director of The Film and Television Research Institute of The Chinese National  Academy of Arts, second-class researcher, doctoral supervisor, Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, and director of the Film and Television Department of the Graduate School of the Chinese National Academy of Arts, has been selected as a leading talent in philosophy and social sciences under the National "Ten Thousand People Plan", a cultural celebrity and a talent in the "Four Groups". He has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Expert" by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and enjoys the Government Special Allowance of the State Council.He is vice president of China Film Criticism Society, vice president of China University Film and Television Society, vice director of Theoretical Review Working Committee of China Film Association, judge of "Golden Rooster Award", "Huabiao Film Awards", "Golden Eagle Award ", "National Five Top Project award" and "BaiHe Award", convener and judge of film and television subject review group of Art Projects of National Social Science Fund, and chief expert of major art projects of National Social Science Fund.The main academic field for Chinese film and TV art theory, history and criticism. He has published more than 500 film and television research articles, more than 20 kinds of personal works, and more than 100 kinds of edited works. His monographs have been selected into the National Library of Philosophical and Social Science Achievements, the Chinese Academic Translation Project of the National Social Science Foundation and the Chinese Books Promotion Program.

In the lecture, Professor Ding Yaping investigated the theoretical and practical problems in the construction of Chinese film history, the writing and research of visual memory, the field and attributes of Chinese film history, and the current value and function of Chinese film history,and other aspects construction of theory and practice of Chinese movie history.First of all, he reviewed the school and tradition of film history in the Chinese National Academy of Arts, and pointed out that the study of film history requires time, methodological changes and critical thinking.Secondly, starting from the definition and characteristics of film history, he expounds how to define, explain and grasp film history research and the academic characteristics of film history.Then, Ding Yaping analyzes the field and attribute of Chinese film history, and points out the objectifying, subjectifying and modernity of film history research.Ding Yaping believes that the perception of the objective and subjective structural relationship of film history lies in the pluralistic coexistence and ideal situation of the modern practice of film history. The historical materials of film history and the features of creative imagination provide an important perspective and method for the generation of modernity.Ding Yaping also deeply explained the Chinese narrative concept and emotional particularity of film history, the contemporary value, educational function and scientific research value of film history.In his opinion, the contemporary value and function of film history include the intention and method of Chinese film study, and more importantly, the thematic mode, research perspective and value function of Chinese film history study.

Ding Yaping also discussed the subject construction and development with the teachers and students of Drama and Film Studies. The lecture ended successfully in an active interaction with the audience.
