Summary of “Yang Xin” forum | Professor Shi Xiang :The Compilation and New Discoveries of the Shanghai Library Collection of Manuscript Codices and Bibliographies
In the afternoon of June 7, 2023, a lecture on the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the Classical Literature Department of Nanjing Normal University was held in Room 117, Middle Building, Suiyuan Campus of Nanjing Normal University. Shi Xiang, a researcher from the Institute of Ancient Books Collation of Fudan University, gave a lecture on "The Compilation and New Discoveries of the Shanghai Library Collection of Manuscript Codices and Bibliographies". The lecture was hosted by Professor Su Peng of the Department of Classical Literature, and nearly 100 students and teachers attended the lecture.
Mr. Su briefly introduced Mr. Shi's academic experience and his academic interactions with him. Then, amidst applause, Mr. Shi was welcomed to open his lecture.
As we all know, the Shanghai Library has a huge collection of manuscript codices, many of which are unpublished and even unknown. Mr. Shi introduced the bibliography and the three criteria for the selection of titles in the new Shanghai Library Collection: First, such editions have never been photocopied to avoid duplication; second, if it is a manuscript, the book should have important documentary and scholarly value, or reflect a unique material of a certain aspect of history; third, if it is a copy, it must be an earlier or famous copy of the book, or have a distinct difference in text form from other copies, or be a copy of the book. If it is a codex, it must be an earlier or famous copy of the book, or significantly different from other copies in textual form, or an important point in the history of the book's transmission.
After that, Mr. Shi selected three kinds of books, namely, the copy of Suichutang Shumu by Ming Hudong Jingshe, the revised manuscript of Lu Wenchao of Zhizhai Shulu Jieti, and the copy of Liang Weishu's Catalogue of the Cabinet Collection in the early Qing Dynasty, and elaborated on the nature, process of formation, value, and other issues of their documents.
The books of Suichutang Shumu, which have been handed down to us, are directly or indirectly derived from the book ShuoFu. The first two lines of the volume of the Ming Hudong Jingshe book were cut, and the two seals of "Lou Dong Wang Ji" and "Keng Yan San Ren" were on the paper after the cut, so it can be seen that forgery occurred after this book was dispersed from the Hudong Jingshe. This Hudong Jingshe banknote book "Suichu Tang Shumu" has two possibilities, one is according to a Ming banknote book "said cache" alone copied out; the second is Hudong Jingshe collection has the whole said cache. The latter possibility is worthy of full consideration when combined with the existing Hudong Jingshe banknote book "Loom Mountain Collection" and "Three Dynasties Northern League Compilation" and other books.
Lu Wenchao proofreading manuscript ZhiZhai ShuLu Jieti, is based on the basic SiKu to two original book remnants, "literature general examination" and other books, will be divided into volumes restored to fifty-six volumes, sorting out each volume (class) sequence, is the original and four library series of the convergence point. After Fu Zengxiang repertoire Lu’s corrections, and Lu this is no longer existing volume eight to volume sixteen and volume seventeen queue loss page, the "school record" still marked "Lu school book for a certain", it seems that Fu Zengxiang see Lu’s book, its still complete. However, and compared to the Nanjing Library collection of another Lu’s book, it can be seen that Lu’s book that Fu Zengxiang saw has actually broken, he is based on Lu Wenchao's style of proofreading, their own proofreading Lu book queue loss part, and then written into the "school record".
The five volumes of the Catalogue of the Cabinet Collection are the catalog of the palace collection compiled by Liang Weishu at the end of Ming Dynasty by royal decree. The first three volumes are in the Shanghai Library, and the fourth volume is in the Tianyi Pavilion Museum. Mr. Shi mainly discusses the relationship between Liang's Catalogue and Zhang Xuan's Catalogue of the Cabinet Collection, and draws some conclusions: First, Liang's Catalogue basically copies Zhang's Catalogue; second, compared with Zhang's Catalogue, the greatest feature of Liang's Catalogue is that it gives up recording the physical state of books; third, the two catalogues are compiled with different intentions, Zhang's Catalogue aims to record which "ministries" the Cabinet has in its collection, while Liang's Catalogue aims to record which "ministries" books are in its collection. The "Liang" is a record of what "kinds" of books; fourth, although the "Liang" is copied from the "Zhang", there are some changes in the details of the rules; fifth, the "Liang" is still a catalog supported by the actual inventory cataloging, independent of the "Zhang", and must not be regarded as the "Zhang" omitted The fifth point is that Mr. Shih's work has been used in a number of ways. On the fifth point, Mr. Shi argued in detail through several concrete cases.
After Mr. Shi's lecture, Mr. Su Peng invited Jiang Qingbai Researcher and Prof. Yang Xinxun from the College of Literature of Nanjing Normal University to discuss and exchange their views on the related issues, and Mr. Su concluded the lecture.
