On the morning of October 11, 2020, the academic lecture on "Hidden Structure and Hidden Narrative in Contemporary Literature" by Professor Zhang Qinghua of Beijing Normal University, sponsored by Jiangsu Contemporary Writers Research Base, a national key discipline of Modern and contemporary Chinese Literature, was successfully held in conference room 114, Central Building, Suiyuan Campus, Nanjing Normal University. The lecture was hosted by Professor Li Wei from School of Chinese Language and Literature, and professor Shen Xingpei from School of Chinese Language and Literature and postgraduates from School of Chinese Language and Literature attended the lecture. The purpose of the lecture was to enrich the students' academic vision. The atmosphere was hot and the room was full of people.
At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Li Wei introduced professor Zhang Qinghua's literature research experience and extended a warm welcome to professor Zhang Qinghua on behalf of School of Chinese Language and Literature of Nanjing Normal University.
Professor Zhang Qinghua pointed out that in the past two decades, contemporary literary academic research is basically composed of cultural studies, which has increased the complexity and diversity of literary research, but the inherent self-sufficiency of literature has also been overturned. "Hidden structure" and "hidden narrative" are an important way to reconstruct the complexity of literary text through the interpretation of the internal structure of the text, which is a significant approach to reconstructing the study of literariness in contemporary literature. This method requires the comprehensive use of psychoanalysis, anthropology, archetypal criticism, structuralism, narratology and other theoretical methods.
Next, Professor Zhang Qinghua used the method of "hidden structure" and "hidden narrative" to make a targeted analysis of two kinds of texts in the contemporary literature. One is the literature of the seventeen-year literature and the Cultural Revolution period, and the other is the new avant-garde literature after the literature reform in the 1980s. Professor Zhang Qinghua took "lily", "campaign on the depression," "song of youth" and other revolutionary literature and "fiction" "Big Breasts and Wide Hips" and other vanguard literature for example to the unconscious structure in the text narrative and individual unconscious dominate the potential psychological activities conducted profound and interesting parsing. Professor Zhang pointed out that to make de-moralizing analyses to the revolutionary literature and to make spiritual analyses and explanation to vanguard literature are namely to reconstruct the diversity and complexity of literary text.
Professor Li Wei made a summary of the lecture. She pointed out that professor Zhang showed everyone present the current cutting-edge thinking in Chinese modern literature study in a short time. He presented a problem consciousness of the hidden structure and the latent narrative in contemporary literature and pointed out the generic text in the study of contemporary literature and the transformation of cultural criticism, reflecting his concern for the development of contemporary literary and cultural development. Professor Zhang's in-depth textual narration centering on the latent structure and dream method has reconstructed the literariness of Chinese contemporary literature. His research method on the seventeen-year literature has transcended the time and space of seventeen years of China, communicating the permanence and transcendence of literature and humanity, and has brought the present ones profound inspiration.
Professor Shen Xingpei pointed out that the historicization and classicalization of contemporary literature research were more in need of a process than that of modern literature research, and there were often problems of insufficient depth in contemporary literary criticism. Professor Shen Xingpei held the view that the research methods of many scholars had their own unique identification and value. Professor Zhang's identity as a poet brought a unique perspective to his literary criticism, and Professor Shen expressed his gratitude for Professor Zhang's arrival.
In the subsequent interactive link, for "how to view the excessive interpretation caused by latent structure and latent narrative method " this problem, professor Zhang Qinghua thought that we should hold a dialectical view of the problem. The current academic research of the revolutionary narration and red text are mostly limited to cultural studies. Therefore, making structural analyses will, in a certain extent, reduce its nationality. As for the question of whether there is "Hamlet" structure in Yu Hua's “Brothers”, Professor Zhang pointed out that there is not only one way to study literature, but also many hidden paths that eventually lead to the same goal. The study of literature is the study of "people" in the final analysis, which means to realize the enrichment of "people" in this process.
This lecture stimulated the students' interest in academic inquiry and played an enlightening role in the methodology of literature research. The lecture was successfully concluded in the applause of all the teachers and students.
