From May 19th to May 21st, the 2017 Symposium of Jiangsu Translators’ Association was held in Xuzhou. Co-hosted by Jiangsu Translators’ Association and School of Foreign Studies, China University of Mining and Technology, the symposium attracted more than 200 experts and scholars from universities and language service institutions. The themes of the symposium include “Translation Technology and Teaching”, “Literary Classics Translation”, “Translation Theories”, “Corpus Translation”and “Sociological and Cultural Perspectives in Translation Studies”.
Six Professors of the School of Foreign Languages and Cultures, Zhang Jie, Yan Zhijun, Wang Xiaoying, Yang Jing, Xu Duo and XuShiyan, attended the symposium.
Professor Zhang Jie’s keynote speech, “Three Turns in the 21st Century Translation Studies: Cognition, Process, and Methodology”, aroused great interest and heated discussion.
Professor Yan Zhijun presided over the first forum, and hosted the closing ceremony of the symposium in Chinese and English, presenting the translator’s dilemma of “to translate or not to translate” to the audience.
The next symposium of Jiangsu Translators’ Association will be held in Soochow University in May, 2018.
