From April 7th to April 9th, 2017, the International Symposium on Overseas Promotion of Chinese Culture and Foreign Language Education in China was held in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. Sponsored by the Sino-US Cultural Studies Association and organized by College of English as well as Euro-Languages College, Zhejiang Yuexiu University of Foreign Languages, the symposium attracted more than fifty experts and scholars from the UN Headquarters and national prestigious universities such as Shanghai International Studies University, Nanjing University, Nanjing Normal University and Central China Normal University. Among these distinguished guests followed a wide-ranging discussion about such themes as “Overseas Promotion of Chinese Culture and Domestic Reformation of Foreign Language Education Within Universities”, “Significance of Comparative Literature for Foreign Studies and Foreign Language Education” and “Audience and Appeal Studies in Cultural Communication—Take Lu Xun and Pearl S. Buck as Examples”.
On behalf of the School, members of the Research Institute of Foreign Languages and Cultures, namely Professor Yao Junwei, Wang Xiaoying and Yang Jing, participated in the symposium, presiding over the meeting, the closing ceremony and the group discussion respectively. Other renowned scholars in the field of foreign studies, including Professor Wang Shouren of Nanjing University, Professor Wu Di of Zhejiang University, Professor Nie Zhenzhao, Editor-in-chief of Foreign Literature Studies and Professor Li Jianbo, Editor-in-chief of Foreign Languages Research, also contributed to the symposium and made revealing remarks.
