NNU atheletes Ruoqi Hui, Changning Zhang help Chinese women's volleyball team win gold at Rio Olympics

China defeated Serbia 3 sets to 1 to win the gold medal in women's volleyball in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on Saturday, August 20, 2016. NNU atheletes Ruoqi Hui and Changning Zhang contributed the last point in the victory.

Ruoqi Hui, outside hitter and captain of the Chinese women's volleyball team, said it is the team's responsibility to carry on the spirit of Chinese women's volleyball. "I believe this kind of spirit is what the society needs right now, whether it is in sports or people's daily lives. We made it today and I hope this could serve as an inspiration for every one of us," said Hui.

In 2015, right before the last year’s FIVB World Cup, Ruoqi Hui was diagnosed with a heart problem and underwent surgery. After 150 days off due to health issues, she made return to volleyball court and was included again in the national team.

Changning Zhang was elected into China Beach Volleyball Team because of excellent physical condition and solid basic skills in 2009, and she was only 14 then. In 2014 and 2015, she was included twice in the Chinese National Women’s Team.

"We concentrated on each point, and we try to grasp every opportunity." said Zhang.
