Professor Chen Xiaoping's Lecture "The Situation of the Paris Olympic Games and the Problems to be Solved in China's Training" was Held Successfully
On the afternoon of June 12, our school invited Professor Chen Xiaoping, a distinguished researcher of the Institute of Sports Science of the State General Administration of Sport, to give a wonderful academic lecture on the hot topic of "The situation of the Paris Olympic Games and the problems to be solved in China's training". Professor Chen Xiaoping's main research area is the theory and practice of sports training. The lecture was presided over by President Shi Shusheng. Teachers from the School of Physical Science and students of 2023 graduate students attended the lecture.

At the beginning of the lecture, Professor Chen Xiaoping reviewed the history of China's participation in the Summer Olympics from 1984 to 2020. Based on the distribution of medals in different types of events in the Olympic Games, it is pointed out that the gold medal in the Olympic Games mainly depends on the six dominant events, while the physical fitness events are relatively weak. Thus, he deeply analyzed the development of the exercise load theory, explained the classic exercise training theory in detail, and emphasized the core position of the load in the scientific exercise training.

Later, Professor Chen Xiaoping proposed four "distinctive" features for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games: the first open environment competition after the new coronavirus epidemic, the three-year preparation time for participation, the dynamic rolling development model of Olympic sports, and the 1:1 balance of male and female participants. Combined with the actual cases of track and field, swimming, tennis, badminton, team sports and other events, he systematically elaborated the key role of load in training, and pointed out the common "intractable problems" in the training of many competitive sports in our country, such as the low level of scientific support, the imbalance of training input and output, the overall backwater of exhaustive speed and endurance events in the middle distance, and the decline of physical fitness in the later distance. Professor Chen Xiaoping emphasized that the reasons of these problems were losing control of exercise load management.


In view of the participation situation of the Paris Olympic Games, Professor Chen Xiaoping put forward relevant countermeasures such as "scientific sports load management", and called for a more scientific understanding of the characteristics of special loads in the process of sports training, and control the proportion of various training loads and the relationship between them. He pointed out that building a comprehensive coaching and management team composed of core personnel such as "great coaches", "wise scientists" and "innovative managers" is crucial to improving the scientific level of sports training in China.


At the end of the lecture, Professor Chen Peiyou from the Department of Sociology of our College asked Professor Chen Xiaoping about the scientific level of youth training in China, and whether scientific sports training is subject to institutional constraints. According to the actual situation of our country, Professor Chen Xiaoping expounded the importance of scientific training for improving the competitive ability and performance of excellent athletes, and believed that the implementation of scientific training should not be restricted by the system.



After the lecture, President Shi Shusheng extended a warm welcome to Professor Chen Xiaoping once again and made a summary of the lecture. He stressed that whether it is competitive sports or mass sports, the future development of the sports community will always hold high the banner of science. Through Professor Chen Xiaoping's wonderful lecture, I believe that the students will deeply understand the importance of "scientific sports training" and internalize it in mind and externalize it in practice.
