On the morning of December 9^th, School of Teacher Education “Red Candle” Youth Association volunteer Hua Xinyi had one to one volunteer tutoring with Shi Mengzhu in the Jingwen Library of Nanjing Normal University. In the two-hour-and-a-half Volunteering, Hua Xinyi helped Shi Mengzhu review the difficult points of Senior 10 Physics, answered her questions about homework, and in the end expanded knowledge for Shi Mengzhu.

The second snow in December was much heavier than the fresh snow. Having walked through the snowdrift, stepping into the warm Jingwen library, Shi Mengzhu was welcomed by the sunny and gentle smile of volunteer Hua Xinyi. Aimed at Shi Mengzhu’s weak point——mechanics, Hua Xinyi firstly helped her review the knowledge nodes in the textbook. Combined with Shi Mengzhu’s incorrect practice, Hua Xinyi explained Newton’s First Law and Newton’s Second Law more specifically and vividly. While talking about the direction of friction, Hua Xinyi applied Reduction to Absurdity, which helped Shi Mengzhu figure out problems of friction in a quick and efficient way. Aimed at the ticker-tape timer experiment problem that has become a test hotspot in the recent years, Hua Xinyi helped Shi Mengzhu review emphatically. Through the rectangle area problem in Maths, Hua Xinyi turned abstract problems into concrete problems and helped Shi Mengzhu to distinguish between the midpoint of time and midpoint of displacement. After that, Hua Xinyi made out some typical problems for Shi Mengzhu to solve by herself. According to the weak points of Shi Mengzhu, Hua Xinyi made some improvement. Although it was only two and a half hours’ tutoring time, Shi Mengzhu made a significant progress with the help of Hua Xinyi’s high-efficient and targeted review tutoring. Shi Mengzhu went from having no idea in face of inclined plane problem to being able to solve the problem on her own, whose progress was comforting.

The Xianlin New Village one to one volunteer tutoring activity held by College of Teacher Education “Red Candle” Youth Association is a practical exercise for normal school students’ teaching skills, which consistently encourages normal school students to initiate teaching methods and go on with teaching practice more effectively. We hope that more and more people will join in this meaningful activity.
