According to the newspaper (by reporter Huai Yu), On November 8, 2017, Shirley Hsueh, who is from International Education Department in Queensland of Australia and in charge of the international curriculum in the Education and Training Department of Queensland Government, came to Nanjing with her assistant Ms. Dong Jing. They conducted a series of investigation and access activities in General Hill Campus of Nanjing Bai Jia Hu Primary School and College of teacher education in Nanjing Normal University. Ji Daobao, director of the Jiangsu Business Unit of the educator magazine, accompanied them through the whole tour.
In the morning, Ms. Shirley came to General Hill Campus of Nanjing Bai Jia Hu Primary School. Accompanied by headmaster Yu Bing, she enjoyed the beautiful campus of General Hill Branch and got to know the implementation of the development of school-based curriculum and the special report of the research on the cultivation of students with art specialty in primary school, which was based on the “2+1 Program” in Education Department and the background of Urban-rural Integration Construction. Ms. Shirley appraised the school for its attachment to the cultivation of core competency. She also agreed that the school drew resources from traditional and community culture and conducted various school-based curriculum. Besides, she introduced the implementation of "STEAM Curriculum" and "Curriculum of International Understanding" in primary and secondary schools in Queensland.
In the afternoon, Ms. Shirley visited the "the most beautiful campus in the east—Suiyuan Campus of Nanjing Normal University. She communicated with the students and faculty of the university. Attending the event were Wang Daping, deputy director of International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Nanjing Normal University, Zhang Jie, secretary of the party committee of Nanjing Normal University, Yang Zuodong, dean of the college and Zhou Xiaojing, associate dean of the college.
Yang Zuodong, Dean of College of Teacher Education in Nanjing Normal University presided over the activity and gave Ms. Shirley a very warm welcome. He also showed great gratitude toward Jiangsu Business Unit of the educator magazine, Education Department of Queensland in Australia and International Cooperation and Exchange Office of Nanjing Normal University, who had given help and guidance to the students from “Prominent Teacher Project” who had paid a visit to Australia.
Wang Daping, deputy director of the international cooperation and Exchange Office of Nanjing Normal University, made a speech on related issues and communicated with Ms. Shirley. During the activity, Ms. Shirley, on behalf of International Education Department in Queensland of Australia, granted certificates to 8 students from “2017 Prominent Teacher Project”. These students shared their personal experiences in terms of classroom organizing form, student evaluation methods and teaching objectives, etc. Then, Ms. Shirley introduced the basic education system in Queensland of Australia and made a wonderful report on future education. She also interacted with the teachers and students.
Attending the activity were some of the teachers from College of Teacher Education in Nanjing Normal University and student representatives from Prominent Teacher Project.
