At 3 p.m. on May 5th, The Final of Micro Class Competition of postgraduates in Nanjing Normal University in 2017, which was hosted by graduate school and school of teacher education, was held successfully at Yifu Building lecture hall in Suiyuan Campus. School party committee member, vice president, Pan Baiqi, school party committee postgraduate work department minister, Luo Yulan, related leaders in school of teacher education and experts of each subjects attended this competition. All the postgraduates in school of teacher education and each schools’ representatives watched the competition.
Vice president, Pan Baiqi made the opening speech. He pointed out that Teacher Skills Competition provided students with a platform for communication and practice. and it can inspire and encourage students who would enter the employment market. He put forward three expectations for all postgraduates. First, the development of teacher skills is significant for postgraduates. Teacher activity is both theoretical and practical and the latter is more important. He is impressed by the great achievements in practical field, but also noticed the weakness of hardware and teaching steps, helping future teachers point the correct way. Second, postgraduates’ training cannot be easily seen as normal skill training. Unlike other skills, teacher skills are complicate activities which are based on knowledge, theory and research and supported by practice. In this way, postgraduates should focus on both theory and practice and train each teacher skills systematically. Third, teacher skills should also be supported by the introspection and research of postgraduates. Compare to undergraduates, postgraduates can do the research. Therefore, we should take advantage of it and try hard to transfer teacher skills to sustainable and improvable excellent skills through repeated researches, introspections and conclusions. At last, he wished that contestants could show their best performance and the final of Micro Class Competition of postgraduates could be success.
Fourteen students from School of Literature, School of Education Science, School of Social Development, School of Psychology, School of Arts and School of Teacher Education were on the shortlist. Contestants from different subject show a micro class in 8 minutes. Compare to preliminary contest, the efficiency and intensity of this competition are increased. Student of School of Teacher Education, Li Yunlin had a class of Zhu Fu written by Lu Xun. Her fluent style and affective explanation made audience be personally on the scene. Student of School of Education Science, Gu Luqian taught about the first time to shop. She created the real class situation and reflected the real condition of kids in kindergarten, which was praised by all the judges. Student of School of Teacher Education, He Yuhong showed us the teaching section of Large-scale Seawater Motion. Her lead-in is lively and her teaching design is brief, making judges impressive. Every contestant’s teaching conception, which is from but above texts, and teaching method are different from each other. They show their class design in a profession gesture and introduced specific section in teaching design enthusiastically.
After the competition, judgements commented on every contestant critically. Xie Kaibin and Wu Zhengquan were impressed by each contestant’s performance and gave suggestions about the determination of teaching aims, the cluster of teaching details, the vitality of language explanation. Yang Yue and Xiao Xiaoyan expressed their expression for contestants’ education knowledge, modern education technology and dressing etiquette. They also advised all the postgraduates to think out more about how to inspire students’ interest. Judgements pointed out that the real class is not always as expected and real surprises always hide behind the class. Therefore, postgraduates should improve their reactive potency.
In this competition, He Yuhong and Li Yunllin won the first prize; Lu Tong, Ju Ziwei and Shan wansu won the second prize. Chen Mengqi, Huangpu Xinru, Gu Luqian and Li Shuang won the third prize; Xie Mengyuan, Li Zongyuan and other five students won the excellent prize.
The final of micro class is the last competition of Teacher Skill Competition, which was last two months and includes writing contest, teaching design competition and micro class competition. The whole competition attracted nearly 800 students from School of Literature, School of Education Science, School of Social Development, School of Psychology, School of Arts and School of Teacher Education. This competition inspired postgraduates to exercise teacher skills and intensify the professional quality for future teachers. The university and school work together to provide all students who wants to be a teacher with a platform for communication and improvement, laying solid foundations for postgraduates.
